By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (33-2, 9 KO’s) has a lot riding on his fight next Saturday night against #4 WBO ranked contender Paulus Moses (28-1, 19 KO’s) at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Not only does the 28-year-old Burns have his World Boxing Organization on the line, but he also has a potentially good paying future bout against Kevin Mitchell (33-1, 24 KO’s) at stake.

This is the fight that Burns will get for the summer if he can just somehow get past the talented 33-year-old Moses. What a pity that’ll be if Burns gets whipped by Moses and ends up missing the nice payday bout against Mitchell, but I can see that happening in this fight because Moses has the better physical tools compared to Burns. Moses has better hand speed, a better jab, better left hook, better right hand, superior experience, and better footwork. The only advantage I see Burns having in this fight is his age. He’s right now in his prime, whereas Moses is coming downhill a little from his own prime.

Burns says he doesn’t like to watch his opponents on video so he doesn’t come into the fight thinking too much. He’d rather figure someone out in the fight itself. Believe me, I see that being a mistake for Burns because Moses has a sneaky left hook that he likes to throw with huge power. He disguises it well to where his opponents aren’t expecting it until he lands it. With Moses, all it takes is one big left hook and he’ll have Burns staggering around the ring wondering what hit him. Moses is a great finisher once he gets a guy hurt and I can see him flurrying on Burns until gets’ got his stretched out on the canvas looking up at the lights.

I imagine the Mitchell fight only applies to Burns and not to Moses. I could just see it, Moses wipes out Burns and then takes out Mitchell in the summer. No way do I see Moses getting a chance to destroy Mitchell after he already takes care of Burns.
