Image: Weights: Povetkin 229, Huck 209By Dan Ambrose: So much for Marco Huck (34-1, 25 KO’s) coming in bulked up against WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (23-0, 16 KO’s) for their fight on Saturday night at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.

On Friday’s weigh-in, the 27-year-old Huck weighed in at a light 209 pounds, whereas the 32-year-old Povetkin weighed in close to usual weight at 229lbs. Huck’s weight was only one pounds heavier than what he usually weighs for his bouts when he’s fighting at cruiserweight. Huck had been saying he was going to bulk up to where he would be heavier than Povetkin for this bout, but as you can see, Huck was obviously joshing as he’s 20 pounds lighter than Povetkin.

In the past, Povetkin has always done well against fighters that weighed less than him, beating the likes of Carrone Fox, John Castle, Muhammed Ali Dumaz, Livin Castillo, Ismamu Mayfield, Chris Byrd, and Eddie Chambers. However, most of Povetkin’s opponents have weighed more than him when he set foot inside the ring. The weight disadvantage never hurt Povetkin, because he’s the type of fighter that tends to outwork his opposition.

Huck, being the smaller fighter, can’t afford to lose any of his speed or have his endurance affected if he wants to try and get a win over Povetkin on Saturday. Since Huck won’t have the size, he’s going need to really pour it on if he wants to earn a decision in this fight. Huck doesn’t have the size or the power to overwhelm Povetkin and he’d be stupid if he tries it.
