The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Women’s Boxing Draw is Completed in Spokane

SPOKANE, WASH.) – The brackets have been set for the first-ever U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Women’s Boxing at Northern Quest Resort in Airway Heights, Wash. All 24 participants took part in the event draw on Sunday afternoon in the Kalispel Ballroom where the road to gold was laid out in each of the three Olympic weight divisions.

The top four finishers from the 2011 USA Boxing National Championships entered the tournament as the top four seeds. The unseeded boxers each drew a ping pong ball to determine her opening round opponent in the historic event at Sunday’s manual draw. Olympic Trials action will begin on Monday at the Pend Orielle Pavilion at Northern Quest with the 12 bouts of opening round action beginning at 7 p.m. PT.

The winners bracket for the three Olympic weight classes are attached as well as the bout sheet for Monday’s competition. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be a double elimination tournament with the boxers who lose their opening round contests on Monday night dropping into the challengers bracket, which opens action on Tuesday. The challengers bracket will be released following Monday night’s action.

U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Women’s Boxing competition can be viewed online via Universal Sports and the direct links to the daily broadcasts can be found below and on USA Boxing’s website at www.usaboxing.org. The champions in each of the three weight divisions at the Olympic Trials will move on to the 2012 Women’s World Championships in Qinhuangdao, China, where they will need to place in the top eight to earn berths in the 2012 Olympic Games.
