Image: Quigg and Arthur could fight againBy Scott Gilfoid: British super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (24-0, 17 KO’s) may decide on forgoing a fight against Rendall Munroe or Carl Frampton in order to fight Jamie Arthur (18-6, 4 KO’s) again so that Quigg, 23, can try and improve upon his performance last Saturday night in stopping the 32-year-old Arthur in the 8th round at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, Lancashire, UK.

Quigg was knocked to the canvas in the 4th round by a left hook from Arthur and continued to walk into big shots all fight long. Quigg was able to come back and get a controversial stoppage in the 8th after hitting Arthur with a left to the body that caused Arthur to spin around from the momentum. It was a crazy stoppage but not unusual for the UK, where you quite frequently see fights halted with one guy completely okay and still fighting back. This was one of the weird stoppages that just make you shake your head in compete disgust.

After the fight, Quigg was quick to make excuses for his knockdown, saying to Sky Sports News “He caught me square on with a flash knockdown. I got up and kept my composure. If he feels disappointed about the result, I’d gladly five him a rematch otherwise we’ll have to sit down and see what the options there are.”

It sounds like Quigg is more disappointed with the fight outcome than Arthur, and he should be. Quigg looked awful in this fight, showing no head movement, little variation and a not much in the way of skills. He’d could go ahead and look to fight Carl Frampton or Rendall Munroe next but I think he’d be stupid to do that because he still doesn’t know how to fight properly and really needs to go back to the drawing board with a new trainer and look to start from the bottom fundamentals and work up. And Quigg shouldn’t even consider facing a world class opponent because he would be taken apart.

I’m all for Quigg fighting Arthur again. He needs to learn how to fight and really should take on a bunch of other lower level fighters so he can learn how to fight the right way instead of plodding forward without any head movement eating big punches. If a weak puncher like Arthur can put Quigg down just imagine what a good super bantamweight could do to him.
