So not only wasn’t Chavez Jr. not tested, but also his opponent Marco Antonio Rubio, Nonito Donaire and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. It’s unclear why they failed to do this but it sure seems like a huge goof.

You can see how the fighters might be concerned because the drug testing is done to make sure that fighters are using performance enhancing drugs, diuretics to lose water weight or masking agents to block test results. Apparently, only Vanes Martirosyan and Troy Lowry had urine samples collected. However, due to there being no lab to conduct tests on it nothing was done.

What doesn’t make sense is why the tests aren’t being done now. If any of the fighters are dirty from drugs in their system, it’s highly likely that the drugs will still be there days later. Why aren’t tests being done now? It seems like a fairly cut and dried thing for them do. Have them check into the nearest drug testing lab and have that lab forward the results to the Texas State Athletic Commission and the World Boxing Council.

The Texas Commission needs to make sure this thing doesn’t happen in the future. It’s one thing to be conducting only urine tests, when testing has become much more advanced with blood testing, but then to skip it altogether because someone forgot to book a drug lab. That’s sad.
