Hatton says he’ll help David Haye win back his lost fans

By William Mackay: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton says he’ll help rebuild former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye after his recent brawl with Dereck Chisora and his loss to IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
I think it wouldn’t work out well if Hatton tried to tame Haye in order to make him more appealing and safe to the boxing public. If Haye is playing nice guy all the time, he’d likely be ignored because he’s coming off of one-sided loss and there’s nothing that stands out about him right now other than his over the top self promoting skills. Hatton might turn Haye into someone that boxing fans have no interest in seeing. As it is, Haye has lost a lot of fans with his performance against Wladimir.
Haye is of the same self promoting mold as Naseem Hamad and Hatton would likely hurt him more than help him by changing Haye’s image to make him more appear more wholesome to the average fan. Granted, Haye sometimes goes overboard with the pre-fight hype in order to sell tickets but it obviously has been working. Where Haye has gone wrong is by his choice of opponents in the past by selecting guys that had no chance against him like Audley Harrison.

Thats not a good idea for Ricky. At this point Hatton is not a clown. If he hangs around Haye for any length of time, he will be.

Haye should fight a few credible heavyweight opponents before going after the Klitschko’s again! Becoming “Mr Nice Guy” with Ricky Hattons’ help won’t endear him to anyone!
