Arce needs to beat Parra on Saturday to get Donaire fight
By Dan Ambrose: 33-year-old Jorge Arce (59-6-2, 45 KO’s) has a vitally important bout for himself this Saturday in a rematch against Lorenzo Parra (31-3-1, 18 KO’s) in a 10 round scheduled bout at the Palenque del FEX, Mexicali, Baja, Mexico.
Arum doesn’t have a lot of options at super bantamweight for Donaire because there’s just so few marketable stars. The WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux doesn’t have a fan base and would likely beat Donaire if given the chance. Arum probably won’t ever give Rigondeaux that chance, and he definitely won’t let him at Donaire right now before any real money fights have been made.
Arce is a money fight for Donaire and Arum, and that’s probably the one that will happen win or lose for for Arce’s next fight. The reason I’ve been mentioning all this is because of how horrible Arce looked the last time he fought Parra in September 2010.
The fight was scored a 10 round draw, but I had Parra winning it by four rounds. Maybe that’s what it takes get a draw with a star like Arce. You got to dominate him by four rounds to earn a draw and possibly a lot more to get a win.
I think Parra is the better fighter with more in the tank and better technique than Arce. The thing that is going in Arce’s favor will be that it’s a short 10 round fight so that if he starts to fade like he did the last time he fought Parra, he won’t have a couple of extra rounds to lose.
I think Arce is going to get destroyed by Donaire if and when he gets to that fight. Hopefully, Arce will make the right decision afterwards to move back down in weight or retire. He doesn’t belong at bantamweight or super bantamweight. He can beat some guys, but he won’t beat Donaire and he won’t beat Vic Darchinyan, Abner Mares, Rigondeaux, Toshiaki Nishioka, Joseph Agbeko or Yonnhy Perez.

Donaire is by far more impressive than Arce or Rigondeaux in my opinion. Arce brings action in his fights, but eats to many punches doing so. Rigondeaux is just boring and tries to be to technical. Donaire has balance in his game.
ARce is old in terms of his game, the wear and tear of boxing is getting into him..arce is admirable still for trying to put out his all..thats why a lot of mexicans still like him
i think he should get the donaire fight and most likely he will he deserves the cash flow if the fight happens..i still believe rigondeux should face donaire or vice versa but bob arum will not allow that of course..sometimes opinions are unreal the real thing is after the fight where facts are seen not mere speculations.
I like Nonito but have to admit that Rigondeaux is the man @ 122. Maybe @118 Nonito has a better chance against Rigondeaux but @122 Rigondeaux is unbeatable.
