Abraham, 32, who really should be moving down in weight to the middleweight division, has decided to stick it out at super middleweight and go after the World Boxing Organization title after losing three fights in the Super Six tournament to Andre Dirrell, Carl Froch and Andre Ward. Abraham will be fighting former EBU super middleweight champion Piotr Wilczewski (30-2, 10 KO’s) next month on March 31st at the Sparkassen Arena, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Abraham, #2 WBO, #4 WBA, is still ranked way too high for all the losses he’s suffered, but that’s how sanctioning bodies work. You get a guy that’s been exposed badly over and over and over again, yet they still have him ranked in the top five. Wilczewski, #14 WBC, may be the one to finally knock out of the top five by beating him next month.

Wilczewski is someone that would give the guys that easily beat Abraham trouble, but against a limited slugger like Abraham, this could be a step too far again unless he’s able to take Wilczewski out with a big shot to minimize his flaws. I cant see Abraham taking out a quality fighter like Wilczewski, so we could see Abraham winning one of those controversial decisions that we often see in Germany.

I’m really hoping that isn’t the case but I can see it happening. Abraham is backed by a huge promoter and he’s the name guy in this fight, which means that Wilczewski may have to do a lot more if he wants to walk out of the fight a winner by a decision over Abraham on March 31st. He doesn’t hit hard enough to knockout Abraham, although Wilczewski does have respectable power. He’ll have to really outwork Abraham to get a ‘W’ in this fight and it’s going to be tough.
