Wladimir has decided to take a soft one for this defense and the 39-year-old Mormeck’s name stood out among the mostly no-named bunch of heavyweight challengers standing in line for a shot at the title. There are clearly much better heavyweights for Wladimir to fight instead of Mormeck but those heavyweights are still too green and management didn’t feel they were up to the challenge as of yet.

Mormeck, 5’11”, will try his best but it’s going to be difficult for him to stay upright unless he fights completely defensive. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Mormeck doesn’t get knocked out in this fight because he moves constantly now that he’s fighting in the heavyweight division and seems to only come in close when he wants to throw one or two punches.

He then backs away quickly before he gets hit with anything. Mormeck likes to make his attacks like fast surgical strikes where he gets in fast and gets out just as quick. Given how mediocre his opposition has been at heavyweight, he’s successful with his style of fighting. However, he’s not able throw enough punches with this style for him to win his fights convincingly and his movement has cost him a lot in the power department because he’s not able to sit down on his shots like he did when he was fighting at cruiserweight and standing in close to slug it out with his opposition.

Wladimir will only be able to knock Mormeck out if he presses the attack and chases the Frenchman down, because Wladimir won’t likely be able to hit Mormeck with right hands from the outside because Mormeck’s constant movement. Mormeck moves about as much as David Haye and uses a great deal of head movement to keep his opponents from loading up on their shots.

If Wladimir wants to land anything with any accuracy, he’s going to have to take a lot of power off of his shots and just look to connect. He can try and load up for one big shot but he’ll be taking a risk if he misses, because Mormeck has short arms and is able to deliver with good power from in close.
