Will Tyson Fury vacate his British title if David Price beats McDermott on Saturday?

By Scott Gilfoid: There’s a great deal of speculation as to whether or not Tyson Fury (17-0, 12 KO’s) will vacate his British heavyweight title if former British Olympian David Price (11-0, 9 KO’s) defeats John McDermott (26-7, 17 KO’s) this Saturday night in their British heavyweight title eliminator bout at the Olympia in Liverpool.

If you look at the kinds of heavyweights that Fury, 23, has been matched with up to this point and look at the fact that he’s turned down fights against guys like Mike Perez and the Klitschko brothers, it leaves you with the impression that Fury could vacate his belt rather than face Price and have him potentially mess up his progress to a heavyweight title shots. A loss for Fury against Price would likely result in a longer wait for Fury to get a shot at the title.

I hope I’m wrong about this but I think Fury doesn’t want any part of fighting Price simply because he’s faster and has much better power with either hand. Price also has a much better jab. The only thing that Fury has going for him is he moves well for a heavyweight when he’s in shape and he’s a decent inside fighter.

I rate him a little higher than Price in both of those areas. However, Fury night not get a chance to work on the inside if Price is able to get to him when he’s at a distance. I think there would be too much of a chance of Fury getting hit with something big and going down for the count.

We’ve already seen Fury hurt in his last three fights against Dereck Chisora, Nicolai Firtha and Neven Pajkic. Fury was even dropped by the light hitting Pajkic and that really makes you question whether Fury has the chin to compete against better heavyweights.

  • pete says:

tyson will have learnt from his past mistakes in the last two fights and would handle price with ease and if it turns into another gun fight id have to favour fury he knows he can drop him again go tyson.

I understand that Roberto Cammeralle kicked Price.s Irish Arse in the amatures real good! What does Luke have to fear!

For those of you who were not even born when the, “so called greatest”, and you know who I am talking about, TRASHED TALKED his oponnent to the point where good sportsmanship ended, and sheer egotism took over to the point where the ” greatess” was humbled and humilated by his opponent. It is a big joke to hear die hard “greatess” fans still put this man on a pedestral.

I personaly hate fighters who like to trash talk; it diminishes their credibility and make fans get turned off for their big mouth. Humility is a special gift and those people who are blessed with this gift, including Manny, will always fare well into the hearts of their fans. Who likes a braggard? I never liked Ali for his berating of his opponets to the point where he personalized his attack. He is a creep!

Boxing fans, in general, will gravitate to a fighter who displays good sportmanship, humility, integrity and all of the other wonder characteristics we expect from our fighters.

Chisora, like his British counterpart David Haye, is another BIG MOUNTH who needs to be silenced by Vitali. I hope he gets ko’d in the worst fashion.

    Nuff said.

    Who cares?

It depends on the promoters really. This fight a year or two down the road could be huge. Maybe for a European belt, or even one of those interim straps if all goes to plan. I like fury because he’s good but vulnerable at times. Makes him exciting to watch because you’re thinking he’s going to get knocked out any minute. A bit like amir khan. I think price is the better of the two, but I just like fury’s character. He’s brilliant in interviews. Absolute headcase

  • ell says:

Nice article Scott. I agree totally.

  • The ledge says:

Price can’t keep him at a distance though cos Fury as a much longer reach then Price, Fury is tougher and also stronger

  • Swiss Cheese says:

Price and Fury met as amateurs in 2006 when Fury was just 18 years old. Despite the gulf in experience Fury dropped Price but went onto lose 22-8. Price was 23 at the time and a full time England international.
I like both of these fighters… Price is very well schooled but dont under estimate the size of Furys kahoona’s. He was born to fight.

I hope that Tyson will have balls to fight Price and finally get killed!

  • KellBrookeFan1 says:

Tyson would win this, he’s a a tougher guy than Pricey

  • scot the snot says:

I think Price would be a good fight for Fury. I think Fury has too much fight in him for Price.

  • Scouse says:

Price would take Fury out in 3 rounds, Fury has no chin and Price hits hard.

  • 1HandsomeMoustache says:

zzzzzzzzzzz. gilfoid, no one cares about what you think.

  • Jaded says:

Fury’s good, but Price just has too much in his arsenal for him – Tyson wouldn’t make it past the six.
Price would just keep him at distance and then blast him apart, and even if Fury attempted to get on the inside I think price is much too strong for him.
