Will Rubio turn Chavez Jr. into another Lemieux on February 4th?
By Dan Ambrose: Marco Antonio Rubio (53-5-1, 46 KO’s) did what few boxing fans thought he could do last year when he withstood a furious early onslaught by power punching Canadian David Lemieux last April and came on to batter and stop him in the 7th round in front of Lemieux’s home fans in Montreal, Canada.
Chavez Jr. likely would have never been matched against a dangerous puncher like Rubio if not for the fact that Chavez Jr. had his back to the wall and was being forced to fight an even more dangerous puncher in Sergio Martinez.
With no real direction to turn to, Chavez Jr. asked and was given permission to dodge the Martinez fight – and certain knockout loss – to take the slightly less dangerous fight in Rubio. Chavez Jr. now has a real fight on his hands next month and it’s unclear how he’ll perform under the pressure that he’s going to be receiving from Rubio.
Rubio will likely fight in a similar pattern as he did in the Lemieux fight by letting Chavez Jr. do most of the attacking to feel what he’s got and to wait him until Chavez Jr. has used up a significant amount of his fuel reserves.
If you were to pick Chavez’s biggest weakness in his game you would probably have to point to his stamina more than anything. Chavez Jr. often wears out in the later rounds of his fights and is really easy to hit during this time.
His promoter Bob Arum has done a great job of keeping him away from anyone with power or skills, so Chavez Jr. has never had to worry about taking punishment. He’s always been the bigger puncher and the bigger fighter in his bouts. He won’t be the bigger puncher against Rubio and he’s going to have to come up with some different strategy to fight him because slugging won’t work.

chavez jr. is a fake champion not only that but a disgrace to boxing, he is raw, not near the talent that his father had,nor the courage, he goes on interviews talking about he will fight anyone when he ends up fighting bums, than goes in and says he fights who his promoters put out there for him, ultimately the boxer has the last say on who he fights, people should just stop writing about this guy as he is even a waste of words, cant believe you are a chavez you dont even deserve the name, and while rubio is another bum i hope this guy wipes the floor with jr. so we can end this whole paper champion bulls**t
rubio has fought only one prominent boxer
and was annihilated in that fight
that boxer was kelly pavlik
rubio does not like fighting bigger boxers than him
that punch back rubio will KOd by the tenth round
If anything Rubio has to knocked out chavez in 8 or 9 rounds, otherwise by decision their going to give the fight to paper champ chavez jr., like always a bought fight. I hope Rubio wipes chavez jr. a*s.
No,lemieux started way to fast, and he was winning al 6 rounds but he ran out of gas his inexperience in the pro game caused him the fight and chavez has lots of experience and hes a slow starter and he paces him self chavez will win.critics sshhhh.
Chavez jr will be exposed as a paper champion Rubio will ko him in 8 rounds!
If Chavez Jr tries to slug it out with Rubio you can be sure that Chavez will get knocked out cold! I believe Chavez wont have the stamina to withstand the pressure from Rubio I predict a 6th or 7th round knockout
