Vitali may need to carry Chisora to give fans a good fight

Image: Vitali may need to carry Chisora to give fans a good fightBy Scott Gilfoid: When you get a champion that is picking his opponents from the 2nd tier like WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) did with his February 18th opponent Derek Chisora (15-2, 9 KO’s), it sets up a fight that is going to be so one-sided that boxing fans could be leaving for the exits within a round or two after Vitali toys with and then stops the 28-year-old Chisora.

The World Boxing Council recently moved Chisora into the 1st tier at the No.15 bottom spot after Vitali had already signed to fight Chisora, but that doesn’t take away the fact that this is a huge mismatch of epic proportions and Vitali may need to carry Chisora for boxing fans to get their monies worth.

If this was a No.1 ranked opponent that was a real threat to beating Vitali, then you couldn’t blame him for knocking the guy out immediately to be safe. But it’s whole different story when you select a fighter from the 2nd tier to fight. When you that, you’re almost obligated to take it easy on the guy and use the fight as a basic sparring session so that boxing fans can see as much of you as possible. This is why I’m really hoping that Vitali carries Chisora into the second half of the fight and doesn’t just blast him out immediately.

Chisora has fought two reasonably decent heavyweights – Tyson Fury and Robert Helenius – during his five year pro career and lost to both of them of them last year. Chisora comes into the Vitali fight with two losses in his last three fights, and that sends you a pretty good signal that this guy isn’t going to be a threat of any kind. Chisora is going to try, I’m sure, but there just isn’t enough talent for Chisora to do much in this fight other than swing wildly, miss badly and each punches. It could be comical by the end.
