Image: Vitali facing a little swarmer in Chisora on 2/18By Sean McDaniel: It’s fair to say that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) has never faced a fighter with a swarming like offensive style like Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9 KO’s) before.

Vitali, 40, hasn’t been in with a fighter you can call a pressure fighter since his bout with Chris Arreola two years ago. Since then, it’s been guys that have stayed on the outside for the most part and let Vitali do most of the attacking. Vitali will be back in the ring next month against the 28-year-old Chisora on February 18th in Munich, Germany.

Chisora is as ready as he ever will be for this fight having faced two huge heavyweights in the 2011 in Robert Helenius and Tyson Fury. Chisora’s results were mixed, however. He lost to both guys but he gave Helenius problems in losing a 12 round decision. Against Fury, Chisora staggered him early but was carrying too much extra weight to really put up much of a fight. Chisora hung around for 12 rounds but lost a wide decision.

Vitali’s weakness is his lack of stamina. We saw that in his defeat at the hands of Chris Byrd in 2000. We saw a little more of that in his bout with Lennox Lewis in 2003 when Vitali was cut to pieces and looked exhausted by the 5th.

If Chisora is to beat Vitali he’s going to have to really put pressure on him and let his hands go. Chisora wasted a lot of time in the Helenius fight not punching when he had the chance in close. It seemed like Chisora wasn’t always taking things serious. He was busy trying to get inside Helenius’ head when he should have been letting his hands go to beat the huge 6’6 1/2” Helenius. Chisora can’t afford to try and psyche Vitali out because it won’t work and he’ll keep getting hit. Vitali doesn’t need to do much to beat Chisora other than throw arm punches and jabs. His size does all the rest for him.
