Image: The Mystery Man will appear at Khan/Golden Boy appeal hearing on January 18thBy Scott Gilfoid: The Mystery man, whose real name is Mustafa Ameen, says he’ll be attending the January 19th Amir Khan/Golden Boy Promotions appeal hearing with the IBF/WBA to clear up why he was sitting with WBA supervisor Michael Welsh at the Khan vs. Lamont Peterson fight last month in Washington, DC.

In an interview at RingTV, Ameen said “I will appear at the Golden Boy/Amir Khan appeal hearing next week and I don’t want to publically discuss the matter until then. I look forward to the false allegations that I interfered with the WBA supervisor, and somehow tainted the scorecards.”

There it is, folks. Ameen is going to clear up this mess and set the record straight that he had no part in messing with the results of the fight. Khan did a horrible job all on his own without Ameen’s help. It wasn’t Ameen’s fault that Khan couldn’t handle body shots and was shoving Peterson to keep from getting hit so much. Ameen did nothing but sit and occasionally make small talk with Welsh. For the most part, all Ameen did was watch the fight next to Welsh and take in a great performance from Peterson. So what if Ameen came into the ring afterwards to join in with the Peterson celebration. He would likely have done just the same had Khan won the fight. The man loves boxing, so you can’t blame him for wanting to get a better seat next to Welsh so he could see the action better, can you? Just think of Ameen as a kindly old man with nothing but nothing but the best intentions at heart.

The Khan/Golden Boy appeal hearing will be going nowhere. The only thing they can point to is Ameen and that’s a dead end street because he didn’t do anything other than watch the fight, make small talk and enjoy the beautiful Washington arena. There was nothing sinister going on in that fight other than Khan fouling and getting away with it most of the time. Thank god the referee at least did the right thing by taking off two points from Khan for his constant shoving. I thought Khan should have been penalized a half dozen times in addition to those point deductions for all of his pulling down on Peterson’s head fouls.

I’ve never seen a fighter grab someone’s head as often as Khan did with Peterson. It was like he was leaping at Peterson to grab him around the head and in one move pull down on it as if he were going to brain him with his knee. It wasn’t skillful at all, and just looked like plain old fashioned fouling at its worse from Khan. None of that was Ameen’s faul, was it? Did he get in the ring and force Khan to foul Peterson? No, that was Khan’s baby.
