Saul Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto fight being negotiated?

By Dan Ambrose: A fight between WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez and WBA champion Miguel Cotto is reportedly being negotiated according to Ringtv. This runs counter to whats being reported about Manny Pacquiao’s wife, Jinkee, saying that Pacquiao will be fighting Cotto next. But you know how rumors go.
Cotto is also one of the candidates for a fight with Manny Pacquiao in his next fight in May or June. However, it could be that Cotto isn’t happy just waiting around and is actively looking for a fight. He’s a free agent now and only fights with Top Rank in a fight by fight basis. In the past, Arum has been open to the idea of seeing Cotto fight the 21-year-old Alvarez, even though he’s promoted by Golden Boy.
Alvarez would be a very dangerous opponent for Cotto because he’s got heavy hands, excellent boxing skills and can defend himself. At 5’9″, Alvarez is a slightly taller than the 5’7″ Cotto, but doesn’t balloon up as much as after he weighs in for his fights. Alvarez could have too much youth and power for Cotto and we could see Cotto take another beating. I would be surprised if he took this fight because Cotto hasn’t fought a really dangerous without some kind of physical affliction and/or old age since his fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2009.

i think that would b good fight. alvarez need good test n cotto is a good one if he losse the fight it dont matter cuz he is only 21. but if he win he can have a big fight at the end of the year wt floy or pac

Lol i actually think canelo can beat cotto… Canelo just seems very well skilled and fights like a more experienced figther for his age… I give it to canelo hands down… Lets go canelo… Tko or ok win for saul alvarez in the late rounds
I laughed at some comments here, I am SURE Canelo won’t be Cotto; Cotto’s is powerful and too experienced for Canelo, it’s gonna be a good fight though. Yes, Canelo is younger, has good skills and decent power but people forget that Cotto is way more experienced, the quality of opposition is way better than Canelo’s, has more skills than Canelo’s, and he also has the power to stop Canelo. His brother (José Cotto) doesn’t have half the skills and power of Miguel and he hurt Canelo so, you could imagine what Cotto will do. I like Canelo but I think he won’t beat Cotto, at least not yet.
can you put snow tires on the back and summer tires on the front?

Canelo is too young and experience ..he should look for kirkland ..plus is not a money fight for the Veteran that is almost out of the game ..so dont think that its gonna happen unless Paquiao vs Mayweather comes up..
Yeah but canelo is improving more and more, specially he has improve on his defense a lot.I give canelo 3 more fights to be a complete fighter, he will be the next julio cesar chavez sr.He is going to be unstoppable on his next 40 fights if he stays healthy.
Jose hurt Canelo and i also think the stoppage was a bit early, they exchanged shots at one point at the end and Canelo wobbled a tiny bit. Miguel is at the end of his career, Canelo is nearing his peak and they are both vunerable, its gonna be a war if it happens.

Alvarez would stop Cotto in brutal fashion. Cotto is like Tim Bradley, a decent fighter that is good all round but not great at anything and doesn’t possess massive power or speed. One thing he doesn’t have which Tim Bradley has is the never die attitude.
Alvarez should fight Mayweather.

Then the winners can go and fight by the end of this year for p4p best! I can see it happening. Its going to be big $ for the sport! With guerrero or Canelo , Floyd not only would get KOed but Floyd won’t make the money he needs to pay for his debts. But if he fights pacquiao , Floyd for SURE is going to get Koed but more money.

I smelled something good are going to happen next week. It is going to be a four way deal. The May 5 date will be given to Alvares/Cotto and Floyd/Manny fight will held on May 26. They are talking secretly and this time Arum and Floyd will amend their relation. I hope it’s not a dream. only reason Freddy Roach, PAC & his MASTER ARUM wants to make the floyd fight in NOVEMBER is cause he would be out of trainin in PRISON. therefore would make sense to fight him at his weakest which is fraudulent, they are fooling the fans. they are using dirty tactics. i bet you anything, they would start callin mayweather out once he is out of prison. right now, floyd would complete dominate and destroy manny, look at what he did to marquez, and in a lot of peoples eyes, marquez wont hat fight and got robbed of his victory.
