By Chris Williams: Trainer Robert Garcia can’t figure out why Manny Pacquiao won’t agree to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. and get it over with. Garcia thinks Pacquiao should agree to the May 5th so that the two fighters can finally get in the ring and prove who the better fighter is.

Garcia said to examiner.com “What can I say? Mayweather is calling him out, so do it. May 5th is the perfect date and I don’t know why Pacquiao wouldn’t do it.”

Boxing fans don’t know why Pacquiao won’t agree to do it either. After all this time wouldn’t you think he would finally want to take the fight? Of course, we’re seeing it from a narrow viewpoint. From his perspective, Pacquiao has a good thing going with his promoter Bob Arum consistently matching him up against guys that he can beat. Pacquiao is making big bank just beating whoever. It hardly matters if they’re old and on the downside of their careers; Pacquiao still makes a ton of money. But if you ask him to take the Mayweather fight, well then things get a little more tricky for him. Sure, he’ll make a big profit from that fight but given how good Mayweather is, Pacquiao could lose every round and end up suffering an embarrassingly one-sided loss.

The money Pacquiao would get from that fight would be equal to about two of his normal fights against Top Rank guys like Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao can beat those guys in his sleep and make big money.

So why take on Mayweather and get beat for only two-fights worth of money when Pacquiao can keep the train on the track by stomping whatever fodder that Arum digs up for him.

Pacquiao doesn’t have to worry about Arum matching him with someone too good because he’s not been doing that. Pacquiao has always, with the exception of Juan Manuel Marquez, been put in with guys he was a lot better then. So it’s not necessary for him to fight Mayweather an get beat when he can ride that gravy train until he retires.
