Rigondeaux, 31, told Maxboxing.com that he’s got a plan to beat Donaire if he can man-up fight him.

Rigondeaux told Maxboxing.com “Hopefully, Nonito will come to the table and I will show him there is nothing boring about my style. If Nonito comes I will attack. I have a game plan for what I want to do that night. I will show the world that night I am not boring. I believe Nonito does not want to fight me for a lot of reasons. He saw what I did to the champion and Nonito’s coming up in weight.”

I agree with Rigondeaux. Donaire likely has a lot of reasons for why he doesn’t want to fight Rigondeaux, and I think the biggest reason is because of Rigondeux’s counter punching ability. He’s deadly with his ability to immediately fire back after his opponent throws a shot. But Rigondeaux is also a southpaw and that in itself could create a big headache for Donaire, who fights out of the orthodox stance.

Rigondeaux blocks punches incredibly well, and he could take away Donaire’s left hook completely. Without his left hook, Donaire is basic fighter. His right hand is nothing special and he lives and dies by his ability to land his left hook. But what makes Rigondeaux much more of a threat to Donaire is his powerful body punching.

When Rigondeaux lands counter punches, he often does it with incredibly hard left hands to the body that sends his opponents down and out. ESPN2 analyst Teddy Atlas said recently that Donaire is the best puncher in boxing right now. The thing is Rigondeaux’s opponents get hit with his left to midsection when they least suspect it coming because he’s so good at hitting his opponents when they’re in the act of throwing a shot. Donaire loads up on everything he throws and he would give Rigondeux so many opportunities to land his powerful body shots.
