Prescott stops Cassiani; Zhakiyanov destroys Khongchana

By William Mackay: Former Amir Khan conqueror Breidis Prescott (25-4, 20 KO’s) got back to his winning ways with a 3rd round TKO over inexperienced Colombian featherweight Joel Cassiani (6-9-1, 3 KO’s) on Friday night at the Coliseo Cubierto, Puerto Colombia, Colombia.

The fight was scheduled for eight rounds but the Prescott made sure he blasted Cassiani well before the finish.

Prescott had lost his last two fights before this one. He’s not done nearly as well a 140 compared to when he was fighting at 135 as a lightweight. Prescott may need to consider moving back down in weight because this experiment at light welterweight isn’t working out for him very well. Prescott lost a controversial 12 round decision to Ireland’s Paul McCloskey last September in a fight he appeared to win by at least six rounds. However, in his last fight against Mike Alvarado, Prescott ran out of gas in the 10th round and was stopped. He had the same stamina problem in his fight before that against McCloskey, and it could be a sign that he’s not meant to be fighting at this weight.

Zhakiyanov stops Noppadol Khongchana

Khongchana was badly hurt and down for a considerable amount of time on the canvas after the fight was halted at 2:00 of the 1st. Zhakiyanov wants to step it up after this by going after Jamie McDonell, the European Boxing Union (EBU) bantamweight champion next.
