Pacquiao needs to fight Cotto at 150lbs so he can make his money

Image: Pacquiao needs to fight Cotto at 150lbs so he can make his moneyBy Chris Williams: Since it seems painfully obviously that WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto isn’t going to give Manny Pacquiao any more weight advantages so he can beat him again like he did last time they fought at a strength draining 145 pound catchweight, Pacquiao is going to have to agree to fight Cotto at a 150 catchweight if he wants to get the best remaining possible money opponent available to him.

It goes without saying that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best fight for the Filipino star to take if he wants to make big bank, but Pacquiao is being stubborn about not wanting to accept Mayweather’s offer of a 60-40 deal, which is more than reasonable given the differences in achievements between two fighters.

Other than Mayweather, there really is only Cotto if Pacquiao’s goal is to make as much money possible for that fight. If he doesn’t care about making a mint, then he should go after someone that boxing fans have seen him fight before like Lamont Peterson or Timothy Bradley. Personally, I hate both of those picks that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has made as far them being candidates for Pacquiao.

I don’t want to see Pacquiao fight those guys, because those are lame choices that Arum made. I’d rather see Pacquiao fight Amir Khan, Andre Berto, Victor Ortiz or Mike Jones. Forget the weaker guys; I want to see Pacquiao actually tested. I know he probably won’t fight Khan but I think he could get that fight if Pacquiao put the clamps on Khan and really talked him in a one-on-one manner.

Khan would probably cave in almost immediately if Pacquiao got serious with him about wanting to fight. But I definitely don’t want to see Pacquiao ever fight Bradley or Peterson. Those are just guys that Arum picked so that Pacquiao can keep winning and I can see through that. I’d like to see Pacquiao fight Juan Manuel Marquez again, but that’s not going to happen. Marquez is too damn good and he’s basically on the outs, probably forever unless he starts losing like 40-year-old Shane Mosley was when he suddenly got picked.

But if Pacquiao is after cash and cash only, then he needs to give Cotto what he wants and fight him 150. I think it’s awful idea but if money is the main focus then Cotto is the guy. If I was rich like Pacquiao, I wouldn’t fight Cotto ever again. I’d be looking to impress my fans and not just fight guys over and over again so I can make money. Cotto got whipped last time Pacquiao fought him and will get whipped again, especially if Cotto agrees to come in weight drained at 147 and fight Pacquiao.
