Pacquiao doesn’t deserve a 50-50 split with Mayweather: This isn’t charity

Image: Pacquiao doesn't deserve a 50-50 split with Mayweather: This isn't charityBy Chris Williams: I’m in full agreement with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in not agreeing to fight a guy that he sees as a lesser fighter than him for a 50-50 deal in Manny Pacquiao. Why give someone a 50-50 deal when they can’t even conclusively beat opposition that you yourself beat? This isn’t mercy on Mayweather’s part to give a guy that is starting to look like he’s losing it an even 50-50 deal. Forget that. All those god awful catchweight handicap fights for Pacquiao, his bouts against old fading fighters from the Top Rank stable and his fights against weight drained guys. Pacquiao’s resume for the past few years just doesn’t stack up to be someone worth getting a 50-50 deal. In this society, you’re paid based on your accomplishments and I don’t see much of that from Pacquiao. With the opposition he’s faced, it’s like he’s been given a chair to stand on to pick up wins.

Pacquiao got what a lot of boxing fans saw as a gift decision over Juan Manuel Marquez last November. The thing of it is this was the second time that Pacquiao got a controversial decision over Marquez. He did the same thing in 2008, and many people thought Pacquiao lost that fight as do I.

Mayweather fought Marquez in 2009 and won ever round of a 12 round decision. That shows you how much better Mayweather is than Pacquiao and why the Filipino fighter doesn’t deserve a 50-50 deal with Mayweather. At best, I can see Mayweather giving Pacquiao a 40-60 cut of the revenue but that’s it. It would be like charity if Mayweather gives Pacquiao equal parity in fight negotiations.

The other reasons why Pacquiao doesn’t deserve a 50-50 deal with Mayweather are as follows:

• Pacquiao’s catchweights against Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Margarito

• Pacquiao’s title fights involving catchweights – Margarito and Cotto

• The older opposition that Pacquiao has fought – Shane Mosley and Oscar De La Hoya

• Pacquiao’s fights against worn out fighters – Cotto, Margarito, De La Hoya, Mosley, Marco Antonio Barrera, Morales

• Pacquiao’s fights against weight drained fighters – Ricky Hatton, Margarito, Cotto, Erik Morales

• Mayweather fighting at a higher level now and considered a favorite to beat Pacquiao by fans and some boxing writers
This is why I don’t feel Pacquiao deserves any better than a 40% cut of the revenue and I agree with Mayweather for not being interested in giving a guy that he considers beneath him a 50-50 deal.
