By Babatis Banda: After the events of the last few weeks, all real boxing lovers have come to know the truth, that Arum and Pacquiao are avoiding a fight with Floyd Mayweather junior. The few that still hung on to Manny being a real champion are either, delusional kinsmen or are fanatics that have little to do with reason.
Going through all the reasons and rumors given why Manny could not fight Floyd on May 5, it is evident that while it is Arum at the centre of it, Manny is comfortably hiding behind Arum.
It is not a matter of debate anymore, that Arum is the spoiler. Notable people and boxers have voiced this concern before, and it has become louder and louder. It is not difficult to see that Manny is being used as a money spinning machine by Arum, and the more the Floyd bout is delayed, the more money Arum stands to make. The simple truth is that Manny still holds value as long as he does not lose to little Floyd, and the only guarantee is to delay the fight. Arum has calculated that by the time he decides to have the final cashing, Manny would have been squeezed of all the sap, and can be disposed off then.
Pacquiao, whether genuinely or not, has already exhausted Arums fighters, and Arum has eaten with both hands from these fights. To think that Cotto’s name can ever come up again as a possible Manny match-up for Pacquiao only supports the thinking that, Arum is so greedy and that this is how Manny has thrived all along. What is there to prove for Manny? There previous fight was not even close, Cotto was busted open, and psychologically will never be the same against Manny. Other than a decent pay-cheque for Cotto, Manny and Arum, there is nothing in this fight.
We all know that there is a big chance of having a Floyd versus Manny bout on the 5th of May, only if Arum stops the hide and seek games, and only if Manny can stand-up to Arum and make it clear that he is losing face if he doesn’t fight. The way some boxing promoters behave is Mafia-like, and it shows you that the sport of boxing is in a state of nature, were barbarism is the order of the day and there is no regulation what so ever. This sport needs strong regulation before it is completely hijacked by rogue characters that have no regard for anything, but them.
I will say it again, Manny Pacquiao and Arum are using Little Floyd’s name to stay relevant in this sport as most people want to see the two fight. It is a shame for millions of Manny’s supporters who are denied the chance of ever knowing the truth, that there hero was never anywhere near to what the press has put their beloved comrade, but just an illusion.
