Image: Mayweather needs to forget about Pacquiao and focus on looking for an opponentBy Eric Thomas: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is just making himself look bad in trying to chase down a fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. It’s clear that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum doesn’t want the fight judging by his countless excuses.

These are telltale signs that Arum is looking to dodge that fight. And Pacquiao isn’t exactly tearing down walls to try and get the Mayweather fight either. Floyd needs to step back and see the larger picture because it all fits the basic pattern with Arum.

If he has cash cow fighter, he tends to protect them like they’re made of fine china. We’ve seen that with Juan Manuel Lopez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and now apparently we’re seeing it with Pacquiao.

I think Mayweather needs to quit asking for the fight and gather his dignity and walk away permanently from that fight. They may mention his name but I see that as nothing more than namedropping to pick up fame the easy way and convince gullible fans that Pacquiao is chasing Mayweather when it’s clear that’s not the case.

It took Pacquiao three years to give Juan Manuel Marquez a rematch after Pacquiao won a controversial 12 round decision over him in 2008. Do you think he’ll ever fight that guy again? No way. That’s done and it’s likely because Marquez is considered too good for Pacquiao. And the same goes for Mayweather.

He won’t get the shot now and he won’t it at the end of the year in November. When that time comes, Arum will come up with some new excuse not to match Pacquiao up with Mayweather. That’s why if I’m Mayweather I’d come out and say that he wants nothing to do with Pacquiao because the guy hasn’t stepped up to face he’s had the chance. He didn’t do it in 2010 when he couldn’t agree to random blood testing and he’s obviously not doing it now. Mayweather needs forget that guy forever from this point on.
