Image: Marquez's strength coach to rejoin him if he gets Pacquiao rematch in 2012By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez’s strength and conditioning coach Angel Hernandez will be rejoining Marquez for a fourth fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao if the fight takes place in 2012. Hernandez’s expert training techniques enabled the 38-year-old Marquez to pack on a lot of good muscle for Marquez’s last fight against Pacquiao last November.

In contrast to the weight that Marquez put on for his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2009, Hernandez helped Marquez put on pure muscle and not fat. The added weight didn’t slow Marquez down a bit like the weight he put on for the Mayweather bout. Before the fight, a lot of boxing fans feared that Marquez wouldn’t be able to put on enough muscle to fight the bigger Pacquiao, who already been fighting at welterweight for the last three years since 2008. However, as it turns out, Marquez was the bigger fighter in the Pacquiao-Marquez fight last November and showed no signs of fatigue or slowness in the fight.

Marquez appeared to win the fight by at least a couple of rounds, but the judges gave Pacquiao a 12 round majority decision win by the scores of 115-113, 114-114 and 116-112.

Hernandez would be a big help to Marquez if he can get the rematch because he’ll need to be able to put on weight again for the fight because it’ll no doubt take place at welterweight. Right now it’s unclear whether Pacquiao will choose to fight Marquez again because he and his promoter Bob Arum are looking at several other fighters – Timothy Bradley, Miguel Cotto and Lamont Peterson – in addition to Marquez. Cotto and Bradley fight for the same Top Rank promotional company as Pacquiao and they would likely accept less money than what Marquez. That probably makes one of them as the better choice for Pacquiao. I don’t see a Pacquiao-Marquez fourth fight happening unless Marquez suddenly starts looking completely shot in 2012. Other than that, he’s going to be likely ignored for a Pacquiao rematch.
