Manny Pacquiao to step up to the challenge or shut up

By Babatis Banda: I must admit, at some point I believed Manny Pacquiao could really give Floyd Mayweather some problems in the ring. This is after watching the manner he dealt with Miguel Cotto. However, to me it all ended with giving Floyd some problems before he was figured out, and that would just be it.
Today, Manny Pacquiao and Bob Arum are so reluctant to take on Floyd. There is no more hiding, it is clearly written on the wall. Manny is reluctant to mix it up with Floyd. All the hundred and one reasons given by team Pacquiao are lame and laughable at the same time. How can the event of the century not be made because Arum needs to build a bigger arena? If this fight was being negotiated for, for the first time I would have agreed with Arum, but this event has eagerly been waited for, for two years. Arum can still cash in on the re-match with enough time to build his arena. Priority is with this fight being made.
It is simple logic that this event is bigger than issues raised by team Pacquiao. This is the closest it has come to making this fight and so, we need not miss the opportunity because of the flimsy reasons Arum and team are peddling. It is very clear that Marquez caused havoc in team Pacquiao, who had started to believe Manny was invincible. They are aware that with that kind of performance against Floyd, Manny will be ripped apart. Arum is buying time so that either, he makes more money before the Pacman is destroyed or for the Pacman to re-discover himself. Either way, the Pacman is quickly losing face.
Today we are told that the Pacman has made his choice, a secretive choice, and we hope it is a wise choice and it has to be Floyd Mayweather. If Manny has chosen anybody other than Floyd Mayweather, he would have gone against what he has been preaching to his fans and that is….1. He fights for the love of his fans and not for the money 2.Floyd is number one priority and he would let Arum know about that. 3 Floyd is scared of fighting him 4. He is willing to fight Floyd, even in jail. 5. He is clean, and will take the test.
Manny should either step up to the challenge, or shut the hell up.

No logic was intended to try an access the fight outcome between Mayweather and Pacquiao against common opponents. Only was stating that Arum and Roach in Pacquiao’s fights against Mosely and Marquez experimented with Pacquiao fighting without the use of PEDs and it showed in his performance. My point is that the outcome of those fights have made them realize that without PEDs Pacquiao does not stand a chance against Mayweather, that is why we see all of the stalling tactics coming from Pacquiao, Arum, and Roach.
Some people keep on talking about the last fight, jmm & mp. Let me explain it in a very simple manner. Depending champion should defend. Challenger, should challenge. A challenger can not expect to win if he is just defending because he is not the defending champion. If only jmm fight a little bit agressive not just counter punching, yes’ I agree, he should have won the fight. mp is the defending champion, why would he attack. He know that jmm is a good defensive fighter, a counter puncher. and why would he risk that. Here, take the crown, come and get it. I will not come and give it to you. That simple, gentlemen.

As far as I can sense Manny Pacquiao is most willing to confront Floyd Mayweather whether win or loss. What is most obvious is the prize money that runs in millions of dollars. The fight would eventually be arranged in the coming months against Mayweather if the stumbling block is settled. Secondly Manny wants to prove his fame to rekindle because of below par performance against Juan Manuel Marquez.

Booking the MGM showed that Mayweather was serious because whether it be Pacquiao or not, Mayweather is going to fight someone. The only bad part is that Mayweather underestimated Pacquiao’s intelligence hoping that with the arena already being booked Pacquiao would have the good common sense to convince his master Arum that half the work was done and the fight could be set. I’m not a great fan of either fighter, certainly over the past few years both have been guilty of cherry picking opponents. Neither has fought frequently enough and when they have fought its usually against opponents they can be sure to get a win from. You cant blame them that much and I am sure most people getting to their position would adopt the same strategy of both, which equates to larger earnings for the remainder of their respective shelf lives. Sure they will make more money with a one off fight against a dangerous and legitimate opponent but once either lose they are not going to be quite as box office worthy in the future.
However, I do believe that Floyd does indeed now want to fight for real. Having seen Pacquiaos lack lustre performance in his last fight, I am sure Floyd really believes he can win the fight. I dont think he is posturing and throwing flipant comments around.
On the other hand I think Arum certainly doesnt want the fight as he makes good money with Pacquiao, and is happy to match him with his own fighters, making more money from it and if one eventually does beat pacquiao (because he is too old etc) will be a Top Rank fighter and will replace Pacquiao as Arum’s cash cow.
Furthermore I’m pretty sure that with his political ambitions Pacquiao will happily talk about how he wants the fight to be seen as not backing down to his loyal countrymen, but would not want to lose any of his appeal come voting time as being seen as the champion who turned out not to be as good as Floyd is certainly less appealing than being seen as the fighter who tried to make the fight and would have won the fight if it wasnt for floyd refusing to his terms.

They should accept the challenge right now and fight Floyd in May. The only reason why they don’t accept that challenge right no is that they want a bigger venue for the fight to generate more money that even if Pacman loses they got the money that they want.

The challenge is loud and clear. Somebody must own up. If there was strong regulation of this sport, they should have put these fighters as mandatory to fight each other before facing somebody else. This is the reason why drug cheats get away with it. No regulation at all.
