Macklin: I’m a big middleweight; Sergio Martinez is a smaller junior middleweight, so I’m going to win

Image: Macklin: I'm a big middleweight; Sergio Martinez is a smaller junior middleweight, so I'm going to winBy Scott Gilfoid: Matthew Macklin (28-3, 19 KO’s) just got beat in his last fight by WBA World middleweight champion Felix Sturm and now he’s back for a second helping of backside whipping in a different fight against an even better opponent in former two division world champion Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KO’s) on March 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Macklin, sadly, thinks he has a chance to win this fight. I mean the guy really thinks he’s going to win this and he’s going to be in for a serious shock when he gets knocked out cold by Martinez. But listen guy on about why he thinks he’s going to win is simply too much to bear. Macklin told the express.co.uk “He [Martinez] may begin as favorite but I’ll be the one raising my hand at the end of the fight. I’m a big middleweight, whereas Martinez is essentially a light middleweight.”

That sounds kind of primitive of Macklin. The poor deluded Macklin, I almost feel sorry for the guy. He’s going to be raising his hand alright at the end, but it will be when he’s stretched out on the canvas knocked out cold. Macklin was knocked out by Jamie Moore in 2006, and Martinez would have Moore for breakfast in an easy win had he ever faced this guy. We’re talking different levels here. Macklin is like a division below Martinez in talent. It doesn’t matter if Macklin has a little more weight on him than Martinez. That’s nothing but baby fat.

Martinez is the stronger guy by far and it doesn’t matter a whole heck of a lot if Macklin outweighs him by 10lbs come fight time. Julian Jackson had huge power at 154, and his opponents still collapsed in the same manner when he started fighting in the middleweight division. Weight has nothing to do with power. Macklin’s still getting knocked out on March 17th whether he’s bigger or not. He’s just Martinez’s next victim that’s all he is.

I respect him for taking the fight, but let’s not get things mixed up here. Macklin is coming in as the sacrificial lamb for the slaughter. Martinez is going to take out all the aggression that he has stored up with getting stripped of his title by the WBC and then ignored by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for a fight. Martinez is going to make a big example of Macklin and I feel sorry for the guy. I would feel sorry for anyone that would be facing Martinez in his next fight. It just happens to be Macklin who is about to get the brunt of Martinez’s rage. I sure hope he doesn’t get knocked out too badly.
