Image: Khan could face Mosley if Peterson takes Marquez or Pacquiao fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Despite having given a recent ultimatum to IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson that he only had a few more days to agree to a rematch, Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) is still sitting and waiting to see what Peterson will do in terms of his next fight. It’s funny how Khan tried to bluff Peterson and is being completely ignored by him.

Khan and Golden Boy Promotions have offered Peterson a 50-50 offer for a rematch, but that has failed to get him to the bargaining table. Peterson has two potential bouts against either Juan Manuel Marquez at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas or a fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Either one of those bouts will pay more than what Peterson will get in the Khan rematch. It’ll obviously cost Peterson his WBA title, which the World Boxing Association will strip from him if he doesn’t face Khan next.

But Peterson hardly will need the WBA title because he’ll still have the IBF strap and will be money ahead for taking the Marquez or Pacquiao fight. Besides that, Peterson will have a chance of picking up the WBA title after Khan vacates it when he moves up to the welterweight division almost immediately.

Sports Illustrated writer Chris Mannix is saying that 40-year-old Shane Mosley is one of the leading names for Khan to fight next in what will be Khan’s first fight at welterweight. If Peterson doesn’t give Khan the rematch he’s been so desperately seeking, Khan won’t bother staying at 140 and will immediately move up in weight to try and make a name – and get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. – for himself. A fight against Mosley is pretty much what you had to expect for Khan, because he needs to fight a big name to increase his popularity but his promoters at Golden Boy aren’t likely to be in the mood to risk putting Khan in with a good welterweight that could maybe beat him.
