Image: Huck will surprise Povetkin with his powerBy Jim Dower: Marco Huck (34-1, 25 KO’s) is ready to start a new chapter in his career when he moves up in weight to take on World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (23-0, 16 KO’s) in a fight that will bring a lot of attention to the heavyweight division on February 25th at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.

Huck, 27, has been spinning his wheels in the cruiserweight division for the past eight years, capturing the WBO cruiserweight title and defending it the last couple of year through eight successful title defenses.

However, there’s just no money in the division for a fighters that want to make the big bucks and this is one of the reasons why Huck has decided to move up in weight against the 32-year-old Povetkin. Not too many boxing fans are taking Huck seriously in his pursuit of a heavyweight title, but he’s about to make some believers out of these same fans by knocking off Povetkin and then moving on to bigger things like the Klitschkos.

Povetkin seems to be dismissing Huck as a fighter and feels he doesn’t have the size to compete with him. But Povetkin is going to find out the hard way that Huck is just the same size as him and hits a lot harder. This is going to be a war that Povetkin is in with Huck on February 25th and unless Povetkin has the chin or the offensive tools to keep Huck off of him.

Huck has mowed down five of his last nine opponents at cruiserweights and the ones that have been able to survive did it by mostly playing it safe and running from him. Povetkin doesn’t have good mobility and he’s more of a stationary heavyweight. He’s going to be forced to stand and fight it out against Huck. That’s not going to be good for him because he’s going to be getting hit with some massive shots. Huck isn’t invincible but it takes a heavy puncher with a lot of aggression to beat him like Steve Cunningham did five years ago in winning a 12th round TKO. Huck has improved a lot since then and is a much bigger puncher now compared to back then.
