Image: Huck vs. Povetkin: Both fighters want the Klitschkos nextBy Jim Dower: Whoever comes out on top of the February 25th clash between WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetki (23-0, 16 KO’s) and challenger Marco Huck (34-1, 25 KO’s), they both want to face one of the Klitschko brothers if they can get them in the ring.

This isn’t anything new for the 27-year-old Huck, as he’s been after the Klitschkos for the past year but hasn’t been taken seriously because he’s been fighting in the cruiserweight division up until now.

However, Huck is hoping that one of the Klitschko will take him seriously if he can get by Povetkin on February 25th. Povetkin has turned down opportunities to fight Wladimir Klitschko for his IBF/WBO titles. But suddenly Povetkin is now interested in that fight, perhaps because Huck has been making a lot of noise by frequently taking about the Klitschkos in the run up to their fight on Feb 25th.

Huck is very ambitious and wants to accomplish a lot. However, Huck hasn’t been matched tough for a whole now dating back to his questionable 12 round split decision win over Denis Lebedev in December 2010. It’s like Huck had his hand dipped in fire in that fight, because he and his promoters have been reluctant to fight Lebedev again.

Huck’s problem is that he’s had three soft fights since then, which has proven nothing and not kept him sharp. Now he’s facing one of the better heavyweights in the division. I don’t see Povetkin as a real champion. He’s more like a good contender with some decent skills.

He’s someone that can weed out the less technical fighters in the division and let’s not kid ourselves about this fight, Povetkin is the much more highly skilled fighter with a vastly superior amateur background. Huck only has one way of winning this fight and that’s to try overpower Povetkin with punches. It’s not likely to work but that’s the best Huck can hope for.
