Image: Huck could earn Klitschko shot if he beats Povetkin next monthBy Jason Kim: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (34-1, 25 KO’s) has been itching for a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers for well over a year now. After he saw former cruiserweight champion David Haye talk his way into a fight with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, this gave the 27-year-old Huck even more confidence that he would eventually get the fight he wants against one of the Klitschko brothers.

Next month on February 25th, Huck takes a big step in trying to accomplish that goal when he faces WBA regular heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (23-0, 16 KO’s) at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany. A win for Huck in this fight will pretty much guarantee him a fight against either Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko. Huck doesn’t really care which Klitschko brother he faces, as long as he gets the chance to fight one of them. Huck thinks he can knockout both of the Klitschkos, who he sees as having weak chins.

Huck can punch for a crusiereight and he typically weighs well over 200lbs for his fights in that division. He may in fact be the harder puncher in the Povetkin fight, and that could surprise some fans, who see Povetkin as being the one that should come out on top. However, if Huck does surprise people with his power in that fight we could see a big upset because Povetkin isn’t a huge puncher and has been getting his wins by volume punching against mostly lesser heavyweights. Povetkin likes to throw a lot of combinations in close and that could work to Huck’s favor because he’s dangerous when he’s facing a stationary heavyweight like Povetkin. If Huck decides to box, he’ll be playing into Povetkin’s hands because he won’t land enough of his big power shots to really impress the judges in the fight.
