Image: Groves vs. Anderson: George's overconfidence could cause him to get knocked out on March 16thBy Scott Gilfoid: If you listen to any of the interviews given by British super middleweight champion George Groves (14-0, 11 KO’s) where he’s discussing this upcoming March 16th fight against Kenny Anderson (15-11, 11 KO’s), you’ll notice that Groves seems to have become incredibly cocky from his controversial 12 round decision over James DeGale and his 2nd round TKO victory over Paul Smith.

Groves seems to think he’s got power and can just dominate guys instead of someone who was getting beaten in about every exchange with DeGale in the second half of their fight and had to run. Groves, for his own, sake better sit down and realize he’s not that good of a fighter. Heck, Piotr Wilczewski did a better job against DeGale than Groves did, but Wilczewski got jobbed in that fight. I think Wilczewski is a better than Groves and I don’t think much of Wilczewski at all, but he should have gotten a win over DeGale.

If Groves thinks he can walk through guys like Anderson then he’s going to getting some bad news on March 16th when Anderson puts him down again like he did last time he fought him. Groves needs to understand that the way he’s going to have success in his career is to be a finesse fighter that hit and runs.

That’s about the best he can do because he’s too slow of hand and weak of punch to beat guys like Anthony Dirrell, Andre Dirrell, Lucian Bute, and Mikkel Kessler. And Carl Froch won’t even fight, so it’s a waste of time to consider what would happen between those guys. But I do think Froch would completely overpower Groves, especially if Groves came into a fight with Froch thinking he’s a power puncher because he beat Paul Smith. What a joke.

Groves a power puncher? Like I was saying, Groves needs to get back to his finesse fighting roots and focus on his hit and run style that he’s been using. If he tries to slug it out with Anderson, he’s going to get royally spanked in front of his fans at Wembley. It’s good for a fighter to understand what he can and can’t do, and Groves doesn’t have the power to beat power punchers like Anderson in a head to head fight. He’s got to tap and run, and hope he can a controversial decision.
