Image: Groves looking to beat Anderson to get to the next levelBy Scott Gilfoid: British super middleweight champion George Groves (14-0, 11 KO’s) wants to beat Kenny Anderson (15-1, 11 KO’s) in their rematch on March 16th and then use the victory to get to the next level. The two will be facing each other in a kind of a pointless rematch that will take place at the Wembley Arena, Wembley, London, UK.

Groves told westlondonsport.com “I’ve come on since we last fought and I can’t see him going as far as the 6th round this time. He’ll go earlier…I’ve beaten James DeGale and Paul Smith and now I’ve got to beat Anderson before I move onto the next level.”

Groves will probably win this fight but as far as him getting to the next level, I don’t see Groves being anything more than a fringe contender at the world level. He’s nothing special. He’ll beat most of the domestic level opposition in the UK, but at the world level, Groves is nothing. You put him in with talents like Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell and Anthony Dirrell, and Groves would get toyed with.

Groves, 23, is facing Anderson, 29, in order to defend his title and also to improve on the 6th round TKO win over him from the last time they fought in November 2010. Groves was knocked to the canvas in the 3rd round when he got caught by a hard right hand from Anderson.

Groves got back up and was able to take Anderson out three rounds later in the 6th. Anderson thinks he can finish the job this time when he knocks Groves down, but it’s going to be tough on him because Groves rarely stays in one place for very long and uses David Haye’s hit and run style of fighting.

The only way Anderson can win this fight if he pressures Groves at a double time to cut off the ring and force him to fight. I would suggest that Anderson watch the second half of the Groves vs. James DeGale fight, and also watch the Lamont Peterson vs. Amir Khan fight to learn how to chase the running Groves down to force him to fight.

Last time Anderson fought Groves, he plodded after the constant circling Groves and wasn’t able to catch up to him or force him to fight. But the way to get Groves to fight is to actually run after him trap him in exchanges. Groves is actually a weak fighter when fighting in a toe-to-toe battle and that’s where Anderson had a huge advantage.

Every time Groves starts to run, Anderson needs to jog after him to catch him quick. Peterson did a great job against Khan in forcing him to fight with Pressure. That’s what Anderson needs to do to beat Groves. He’ll find out quickly that Groves doesn’t have much power and can’t handle the pressre.
