Image: Dirrell: I want Bute!By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight talent Andre Dirrell (20-1, 14 KO’s) took to his twitter tonight to make a few comments about him leaving his promoter Gary Shaw and to come out and tell the world that he absolutely wants a fight against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KO’s) next.

Earlier today, Dirrell reportedly left his promoter Gary Shaw and advisor Al Haymon to go it alone with his own promotional company Team Dirrell.

Dirrell said this on his twitter: “I can confirm that I want Bute…Me and Gary Shaw NEVER had a contract together! So I didn’t leave him. I’m just going my way and he’ll do him. But he’s great at what he does.”

Dirrell plans on being under total control of his career and the fights he wants to make from this point forward. One of those fights he wants is Bute. Dirrell is going to have to wait a while and keep busy, because Bute doesn’t want him. It may take a loss or two for Bute to decide that Dirrell is a good option, but by then it won’t matter anymore; Bute will be old news.

The Canadian based Bute will be okay as long as he’s not fighting Dirrell or Andre Ward. Once those fights happen, it’s all over for Bute. He’ll get beaten and will have to settle for going after one of the paper titles. Right now, WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz is the weak link among the super middleweight champs. He may or may not last too much longer depending on what happens in his fight with Mikkel Kessler in April, but that’s definitely where Bute is going to need to be looking once he gets beaten by Ward.

Dirrell has to keep busy by looking at some different fight opportunities for April. He looked superb last month in destroying Daryl Cunningham by a 2nd round TKO last month but he can’t just rest on that victory. He needs to knock off some of the top contenders in the division so he can put pressure on fighters like Bute who don’t want to fight him.
