Image: David "The British Klitschko" Price destroys McDermott in 1st round blowoutBy Scott Gilfoid: David “The British Klitschko” Price (12-0, 10 KO’s) may have sent some shockwaves around the heavyweight division tonight with his 1st round blowout of John McDermott (26-8, 17 KO’s) in their British heavyweight title eliminator at the Olympia in Liverpool, UK.

Price didn’t just beat McDermott, he destroyed him, knocking him to the canvas three separate times before the fight was finally halted. McDermott could have kept on fighting but he would have been knocked out repeatedly until he couldn’t physically get up. Price’s power was very impressive in this fight. It seemed like each time he would land something big, McDermott would hit the canvas in a heap, falling on his rolls.

The 1st knockdown was a pile driving right hand that bowled McDermott over. He got up, and got hit with a storm of heavy shots that put him down for a 2nd time. McDermott looked dazed. The shots had too much power on them and they were coming in too quick for him to get his senses and come up with a battle plan to halt the attack.

The final knockdown came from a tremendous right hand to the head that put an exclamation point on Price’s victory. It was a scary performance from the big 6’8” Price because McDermott is a decent heavyweight and he smashed him like he was an amateur.

Based on this performance, I don’t give British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury much of a chance against Price. He hits too hard for Fury and is a lot faster. Sure, if Fury can remain upright long enough to test Price’s chin through three or four rounds, he could score a knockout but it’ll be tough even making it through one round against Price with him throwing punches the way he is now.

Price seems to have the Kltischko fighting style down pat. He looks like a slightly stiff version of both of the Klitschko brothers. He’s not as limber as them and seems to be slightly arthritic in the joints but he’s done a good job aping their style and with his huge size and excellent power, he’s going to be a formidable test for Fury.
