Cotto: I still haven’t decided about my next fight; don’t listen to rumors

By Chris Williams: WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto has been frequently mentioned as the leading candidate to get the fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on June 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, has every reason to choose Cotto for Pacquiao because he’s trying to keep Cotto with Top Rank, as his contract expired last month and Cotto also bring in good money on pay per view. It doesn’t really seem to matter that Pacquiao easily beat Cotto three years ago; if the fight can make money, then Arum will likely choose him as Pacquiao’s opponent.
A big issue that could get in the way of the Pacquiao-Cotto rematch is the weight for the fight. When Cotto was the WBO welterweight champion, he was pushed to fight Pacquiao at a catchweight of 145lbs to make it easier on Pacquiao. But now that Cotto is fighting at junior middleweight (154lbs), it’s not easy for him to get all the way down to 147.
Pacquiao recently said he won’t fight over 147. In other words, if Cotto wants the rematch with Pacquiao, then he’ll Cotto will have to get down to 147 for the bout because there won’t be any meeting half way by Pacquiao.
One can imagine that this doesn’t make Cotto feel too good and it could be one of the leading reasons why he’s not eager to take the fight. When you fight Pacquiao, you got to be prepare to take what’s offered to you or you don’t get the fight.

Its not Cotto, they should be talking to him by now if he is the chosen one. now, down to Bradly and maybe Floyd. Floyd might agree on 50/50 split and May 26 date to save face.
If Floyd accept May 26 date and he was beat up badly by Manny, he can always ask the judge to move his jail time until he can recover from his injuries, no one will put him in jail in a bad shape. MGM reservation can be cancelled at anytime and pay a small fine, no ticket sold yet. I’m still hopeful it can be happened.
@ hey, you must be a newbie to the sport so we’ll overlook the ignorance of your comment. Pacquiao is an 8 division champion with the ability to move up in weight and divisions unlike anyone in the sport. That being said, and the fact that he beat Cotto already, why not at 154??? Unless weight is a factor, and since weight is a huge factor in this sport this is why he request catch weights. But its funny how Pac fans react when its the other way around. From 154 to 147 is huge. And ill throw in if he wants 147 now, why not 147 3yrs ago when they fought pimp????
Pac us just 5 ft 6 in tall. Making it to 154 lbs will make him a bloated. He already went up 8 divisions. Maybe 9 is for superman. Get it folks?

Pacquiao easily beat cotto by fighting at a catch weight of 145lbs 3yrs ago. He’s regarded to be the 8 time division champ and P4P king, but continues to request to weight drain opponents and fight at non existing divisions. A rematch at 154lbs would be exciting. If Cotto agreed to meet Pacquiao at 145 in the first bout, Pacquiao should return the favor and fight him at 154. If not, stop claiming to be what your not.

The only reason Cotto should fight Manny Pac is for a decent payday. Cotto is barley above average in boxing skills. Pac vs. Cotto is another top rank farce. Cotto should stick to fighting other b-level fighters like Margarito, mayorga and Clottey.

If they fight again who knows if the weight would be an issue, if it’s not I think the fight would be alot closer cause cotto would box him wouldn’t trade with him like the 1st time around
