Bute vs. Froch = Career suicide for Froch?

Image: Bute vs. Froch = Career suicide for Froch?By Scott Gilfoid: I don’t know what gave former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) the idea that he’s got the talent to compete with IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (29-0, 24 KO’s), but whoever implanted that bad seed of an idea in Froch’s head, they need to turn around and talk some sense into Froch and quick.

Froch and Bute are reportedly negotiating a pair of fights that will take place in 2012 with the first fight taking place in Montreal, Canada, where Bute fights of his bouts. This is such a bad idea for Froch to take this fight on so many levels.

It’s a bad time for Froch to be facing a talent like Bute right now after Froch’s whipping by WBA super middleweight champ Andre Ward last month in the Super Six tournament. Froch looked like he had two left feet and a lot of dead fast twitch never tissue in his arms, shoulders and legs. He fought like he’d been out in the cold for a couple of hours and wasn’t fully warmed up.

But the timing is just horrible for this fight. It’s like going to a party right after your girlfriend has dumped you. You’re not going to be at your best. I think Froch is about to commit career suicide if he takes these two fights with Bute. Heck, I think Froch will be fatally hurting his career if he only fights Bute once.

It’s a bad style of someone like Froch. He need leave the Bute type guys to the fast-twitch speed demons like Andre and Anthony Dirrell and Ward. Let those guys rid top tier of Bute, and then Froch can try and pick one of them off in Nottingham, England. If I’m Froch, I would never fight Ward, Bute or the Dirrell brothers any other place but Nottingham. Froch’s chances of getting away with fouling are much better fighting in Nottingham than elsewhere.

Just look at all the fouling he did against Andre Dirrell in 2009 the last time Froch fought at home. I would tell Froch to stick to his guns and get stubborn about wanting Nottingham or nothing. I mean sure Froch can fight Bute, Dirrell and Ward outside of Nottingham, but he’s just going to lose and look terrible in doing so. He’s got to try and get an advantage to increase his chances of success.

Since Froch doesn’t have fast hand and foot speed, and he also isn’t a big hitter, he needs to be able to rough up the quicker guys in order to make up for his lack of speed. Froch couldn’t do that with Ward because the referee was too quick on the trigger in stopping the action whenever it got rough. That’s why it needs to be Nottingham or nothing. Drag out the referee that worked the Froch-Dirrell fight from 2009 and I think Froch will be cooking with gas.

But my advice is for Froch to stay far, far away from Bute. Let the Dirrell brothers handle him.
