Brook has big advantages over Hatton in War of the Roses

Image: Brook has big advantages over Hatton in War of the RosesBy Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (26-0, 18 KO’s) will be in a good position to come out on top in his “War of the Roses” battle against Matthew Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO’s) at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK.

Brook has the speed, power, movement, defensive skills and youth going for him.

All Hatton has is experience and even much of that has been in the way losses instead of wins. It’s not so great when you’re claim to fame is you went 12 rounds with then 20-year-old Saul Alvarez and blocked his punches with your face.

This is just another mismatch for Brook so he can look good in front of his fans before he eventually fights for a title at some point in 2012 or 2013. I like the whole “War of the Roses” bit but it’s kind of a little much given how much of a mismatch this fight is.

Like a lot of boxing fans, I’ve been wondering when Brook finally faces an opponent that can actually fight. Here he is an eight-year pro and he’s still faced anyone good. It’s going to get to the critical state if Brook makes it to his 9th and 10th years as a pro and still hasn’t faced a quality fighter. You’ll have to assume he’s one of those record padding fighters at that point, kind of like the Danish heavyweight that fought 2nd tier opposition for almost his entire career until the very end when he stepped up and got smacked down real quick.

Hatton said to the dailymail.co.uk “I knew I would fight Kell one day. So this is a fight that excites me.”

It would interest me a lot more if Hatton at least had some weapons he could use to win this fight because he looks way over his head. He’s going to get drilled to pieces in this fight unless he fights over his talent level.

Here are Brook’s best opponents of his career:

Luis Galarza
Rafal Jackiewicz
Lovemore N’dou
Michel Jennings

Not too good, is it? Now you can add Hatton’s name to that list. It’ll look good among those names and fit in perfectly.

Hatton’s best opponents of his career:

Saul Alvarez
Gianluca Branco
Yuriy Nuzhnenko
Lovemore N’dou
Ben Tackie
Craig Watson

Hatton’s list is a little bit better than Brook’s but not by much. What makes things bad for Hatton is he lost badly to Watson and Alvarez.
