Image: Berto suffers arm injury, Ortiz fight in jeopardy; Cotto should have agreed to fight Pacquiao at 147By Allen Fox: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto has suffered an arm injury of some kind that may require that his February 11th rematch with Victor Ortiz be postponed. Steve Kim is reporting that Berto suffered a ruptured bicep.

In the past, Berto suffered a left torn bicep in his fight with Carlos Quintana that required surgery. Hopefully it’s not as bad as this injury because that postpone his rematch with Ortiz for quite some time. It doesn’t look good for their rematch fight, which is supposed to take place at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two guys fought last April in a fight that saw both guys hit the deck before Ortiz stepped on the gas and pulled away to pound out a 12 round decision over the exhausted Berto.

Miguel Cotto may have aced himself out of the picture for a Pacquiao fight

WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) could have underestimated the resolve of Manny Pacquiao in not giving to Cotto’s desire to fight at a 150 pound catchweight. Cotto might have thought that Pacquiao would back down on his refusal to fight above 147lbs, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen judging by the news about their promoter Bob Arum being on the verge of announcing Pacquiao’s next fight against Timothy Bradley.

Cotto should have realized that Pacquiao rarely gives any concessions to his opponents and has been doing things this way for a number of years dating back before Pacquiao fought Oscar De La Hoya. Cotto shouldn’t have even bothered with trying to get a rematch with Pacquiao unless he was willing to give in immediately to Pacquiao’s desire to have the fight take place at 147.

Cotto should be happy that Pacquiao was willing to have the fight at that weight and not an even lower one, because Pacquiao has used catchweights in the past but they’ve always been a negative to his opponents with them having to strip off weight.
