Image: Audley Harrison vs. Ali Adams tickets selling fast for April 14th boutBy Sean McDaniel: Roughly half of the tickets have already been sold for the 1900 seat Brentwood Centre arena for the April 14th match between 40-year-old Audley Harrison (27-5, 20 KO’s) and Ali Adams (13-3, 5 KO’s), according to Colin Hart at thesun.co.uk.

It could be that the promoter for the Harrison-Adams fight under estimated Harrison’s still strong popularity among a segment of the population. This fight might have done better in a larger venue to sell more tickets. 1900 is an incredibly small arena for a fighter like Harrison.

Harrison hasn’t fought since he was stopped in the 3rd round by WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in November 2010, and he wants to redeem himself before he gets out of the sport. Harrison should be far too much for the 30-year-old Adams to handle in this fight, as the differences in classes of these two fighters are fairly dramatic. However, with Harrison he’s always been inconsistent and has had multiple cases where he’s under performance against guys that he should have been able to stomp.

It’s assumed that Harrison will retire off of this fight win or lose. However, it’s very possible that he will elect to continue his career if he beats Adams by knockout or dominates him. With his 6’6” size, Harrison could possibly continue on for another couple of years getting paydays here and there and possibly serving as a trial horse for the younger heavyweights like Tyson Fury, Dereck Chisora and David Price. Harrison’s name and power make him an appealing opponent for when there isn’t anyone interesting to fight.

In looking at Price’s last opponent John McDermott, I can see Harrison doing a lot better than McDermott. At least he could make it to the 2nd round. I suspect Price’s promoter might not be willing to risk putting the shaky chinned Price in with a power puncher like Harrison because all it would take is one wild haymaker from Harrison and he could stop Price.
