Would Khan have given Peterson a rematch if he had won?

Image: Would Khan have given Peterson a rematch if he had won?By Allen Fox: I personally think Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) shouldn’t bother giving former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KOs) a rematch next March. The reason I feel this way is that Khan likely wouldn’t have given Peterson the time a day if he had won the fight instead of Peterson last Saturday.

Do you honestly think Khan would have bothered with fighting Peterson again if he had won? Since when has Khan ever given anyone a rematch in his career? He didn’t do it his two prior toughest fights of his career against Breidis Prescott and Marcos Maidana, so it stands to reason that Khan would have ignored Peterson’s requests for a rematch and moved on instead. I think Peterson needs to keep this in mind.

Why give Khan a rematch when he the chances are almost 100% that Khan wouldn’t have done it. I know Peterson is a nice guy and wants to thank Khan for doing him the favor of giving him the fight in the first place, but it’s not as if Khan did this out of the goodness of his heart. You know and I know Khan chose Peterson because he couldn’t punch like some of the other contenders in the division, and had a high ranking. Khan could have chosen Humberto Soto, who can punch, but instead of opted for Peterson.

A rematch between Khan and Peterson is going to be one where Khan likely has the advantage in terms of the venue, the size of the ring and the referee. Peterson should get as much money as possible for this fight because he may get jobbed when it comes to the decision. At the very least, Peterson won’t be able to depend on Khan’s fouling to be monitored and controlled like it was in Washington, DC, not that Khan ever really stopped fouling. Heck, Khan completely ignored the referee’s warnings and even continued to foul at will after he was penalized in the 7th for pushing.
