Image: Ward defeats Froch, wins Super Six final!Photo: Casino/SHOWTIME – By William Mackay: Moments ago, undefeated WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) put on a masterful performance in defeating WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision to scoop up the Super Six tournament trophy in the finals of the Showtime tournament at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The final judges’ scores were 115-113, 115-113, and 118-110. The 118-110 score seemed to be closer to what actually took place in the ring tonight, as Froch was simply too slow to do much in this fight. He looked as if he was fighting under water and he was hurt on several occasions from big shots from Ward.

It’s unclear what the two judges were watching who scored it 115-113 because Froch was almost completely shut out in this fight, and it wasn’t in the least competitive. In the last couple of rounds, Froch looked visibly frustrated and started trying to rough Ward up a little with fouls. It didn’t work because by then Froch needed a knockout to win.

Round 1

Carl Froch dangling his long left out in front of him. Andre Ward comes over the top with a hard jab that snaps Froch’s head back. Both fighters clinch. Froch not doing anything looking cautious. Ward snaps off two more hard jabs that redden Froch’s nose. Froch tried to retaliate with wild right hand that badly misses. Ward jabs to the midsection. Both fighters throw wildly in close.

Both fighters come together on the inside. Ward trying to get some shots in but no real openings. Ward jabbing from the outside. Froch catching jabs to the head and still having problems with Ward’s speed and airtight defense. Ward lands long right hand lead to the head of Froch that snaps his head back. Froch tries to retaliate but misses badly. Ward using the same quick in and out attacks that he used to dominate Mikkel Kessler with two years ago. Froch struggling with the speed of Ward’s attacks. Froch looks like he’s two gears too slow for Ward. Ward blocks Froch’s attempts to land. Late in the round, Ward hurts Froch with a right to the head.

Froch trying to land shots at the start of the round but getting punches blocked. Ward working on the inside during a clinch. Froch having problems with his balance, stumbling around. Froch missing jabs and getting hit with right hands and jabs from Ward. Froch lands nice body shot with the right hand. Froch misses some more shots. Ward flurries.

Ward coming over the top with hard jabs each time Froch tries to land anything of substance. Ward nails Froch with a hook to the head i close. Ward gets in close, tagging Froch with shots. Froch trying to throw back but no leverage on the inside on his shots. Ward landing hard left hooks and rights to the head. This is starting to look like a mismatch.

Ward now coming forward with pin point attacks, staying in close after he lands from the outside. Ward lands hard left to the head. Froch trying to lab but Ward staying out of range. Ward lands nice lead right. Ward lands another right and two nice left hands that connect to the head of Froch while he’s coming forward.

Ward making it look easy now. Froch lands long right to the body fro the outside. Ward continues to jab hard to the head of Froch. Ward lands huge right hand that connects to the head of Froch catching him unprepared. Froch’s reaction time much too slow.Froch throws combination and nice left hook. But Ward lands big left hook. Froch looked hurt at the end.

Froch starts out well, landing hooks and right hands and finally finding some openings in Ward’s defense. Ward comes back after Froch stops punching and lands a nice right hand. Both fighters come together for a clinch. Ward lands nice right. Froch gets out of the way of another right from Ward. Little bit of wrestling now. Froch lands uppercut to the head. Ward throws combo to the body. Good round.

Froch looking incredibly slow tonight. He starts off throwing right hand and plods forward slowly with wide stance. Ward doesn’t waste any time and quickly nails Froch with a huge jarring right hand. Froch throws left-right combo and looks a little angry now. Ward landing uppercuts and nice right hands. A big left hook by Ward lands and he falls into a clinch. Froch nails Ward with a shot after the bell. He looks frustrated.

Ward starts off by jabbing Froch to the head and falling forward into a clinch. Another clinch after a miss by Ward. Froch now jabbing. Froch lands nice right hand. He looks desperate now and fighting very hard. Froch lands another nice right followed by another. Ward focusing more on defense.

Ward and Froch coming together for some wrestling and holding. Not much action here. Ward landing lefts to the head and jabs, but always falling into Froch for a clinch. Froch lands left to the body when he finally gets room to throw. Ward nails Froch with big left. Ward dodges some shots from Froch and flurries on him. Ward ends round with nice left to the head.

Froch way behind in the fight trying to jab instead of throwing power shots. Ward landing nice shots from the outside with his jab. Froch looks tired.Ward nails Froch with a nice uppercut in close and right hand. Froch lands right and left hook. Ward lands more uppercuts.

Froch jabbing. Ward lands some hooks, a lot of wrestling. Froch throws combantions. Ward not bothered by Froch’s punches. Froch lands left hands, but not doing much with his right.Ward staggered Froch with big left hook to the head.
