Image: The IBF/WBA to make a determination on Khan's appeal on Jan. 18By Allen Fox: On January 18th, the IBF and WBA will make a determination on Golden Boy Promotion’s appeal on the behalf of former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, who believes he was judged unfairly and treated unfairly by the judges and the referee in Khan’s 12 round split decision loss to Lamont Peterson on December 10th in Washington, DC.

Golden Boy and Khan both believe that he shouldn’t have lost two points for pushing Peterson in the fight and contend that pushing isn’t a foul that can be found in the rule book.

They also question the scoring of the fight where one of the judges changed his original score and they also see something fishy about the delay that it took for the judges to get the scorecards read after the fight.

Khan and Golden Boy want the results overturned with either the ruled a no contest, in which case Khan gets to keep his two titles, or the results are overturned completely with Khan given the win.

I’m sure if Golden Boy has really thought this through and seen how this might affect Khan’s popularity among the hardcore boxing fans of the sport. If this result is overturned and Khan is given the victory or if it’s ruled a no contest, Khan is going to be intensely disliked and looked upon as a sore sport, someone that can’t accept a loss.

It might not have been a big deal had Khan not fouled as much as he did in the fight. There is no ignoring the fact that Khan was fouling like crazy in the fight and when he wasn’t fouling, he was running all over the ring.

It made for bad television to see the combination of fouling, running and the look of sheer panic in Khan’s face. He looked really worried and his trainer Freddie Roach wasn’t giving him anything in the way of advice that was working against Peterson.

The casual boxing fan won’t care a bit if the decision is overturned, because they don’t really know what’s going on in the sport. If Golden Boy is looking at those fans then this isn’t a bad thing, because they won’t realize how Khan got his titles back when he faces his next opponent. But it’s going to alienate a lot of hard core fans if this thing is overturned.
