The IBF will investigate Khan-Peterson fight
By John F. McKenna (McJack): The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has confirmed that they will hold an investigation into the circumstances around the controversial fight between former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) and new IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s).
The conduct of referee Joe Cooper was also suspicious according to Golden Boy. Cooper deducted two points from Khan during the bout for pushing, although according to Schaefer there is no provision in the commission rules for being penalized for shoving or pushing.
Peterson relieved Khan of his IBF and WBA belt in the match. The fight was held in Peterson’s home town of Washington, D.C. and Schaefer strongly alleges that there was some hometown cooking going on. There had been no major fights in D.C. for almost two decades. An angry Amir Khan stated after the decision that it would be difficult to arrange another fight in Washington, D.C. based on what had happened to him.
Sportinglife.com quoted the IBF statement which said:
“On the evening of December 19, the IBF/USBA received a request for a formal appeal procedure from Golden Boy Promotions for the bout between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson.
“The grounds for such an appeal include miscalculation of the scoring, inappropriate conduct by officials which may affect the outcome of the bout and any alleged violations of the rules of the IBF/USBA that may have a detrimental affect on the complainant.”
The appeal will be reviewed on January 18 and 19 of 2012 after which a decision will be made as how to remedy the complaint.
Also in question is Schaefer’s allegation that the master scorecard disappeared immediately after the fight and a different version of it appeared two days later.
The two points that referee Joe Cooper deducted from Khan was the difference between victory and defeat. Golden Boy is hopeful that at the very least Peterson will be forced to honor his pledge made after the match to give Khan a rematch. Peterson’s manager has recently indicated that he will not be bullied into a rematch with Amir.

IF THE DECISION DOES GET OVER TURNED KHAN WILL STILL REMATCH PETERSON IN A NEUTRAL VENUE TO PROVE TO ALL YOU THAT DOUBT HIM . 100% GARUNTEED
Khan beat Peterson fair and square but didn’t have enough skill to beat the ref.
Can you imagine the reaction of the boxing world if the decision is overturned. Khan better have a damage control plan ready, hire communication experts to smooth up the outcry. What a loser Khan is.
All B-level brawlers beat him.
peterson will lose the rematch hands down, there is no way he can handle khan on the outside and khan will be well aware of petersons inside game plan in the next fight, I can see khan recapturing his belts and peterson looking like he has run out of ideas during the fight. Its going to be like cotto vs margarito 2 in which cotto adjusted to margarito’s constant pressure and picked him apart and broke him down
MANNY PACQUIAO vs LAMONT PETERSON
“WBA-IBF Jr. Welterweight championship”
More interesting!!!
Is Khan going to demand a re match, or an investigation any time he gets beaten? And I’m sick of hearing about his dream of a fight with Mayweather! Wish he’d go back Bolton England, the home of pork pies and warm beer!
BOXING GURU, hope you are right, a rematch will make or break for Khan and his damaged respect in the USA, my prediction is that he will win the rematch, if no rematch, then I hope Peterson fights the best in the division to prove that he is a worthy champ
@Pack-Kill
Why does it matter if i am a male or female, just being honest yay
Watch Leonard Duran fights 1 and 2
Boo Hoo, Khan got his feelings hurt…………..
khan is a douche bag. well overated. He got exposed. Not mega fight worthy material. This fool was hoping to be no 1 pound for pound boxer. Best joke of 2011!
They will order an immediate rematch in early 2012 (March 10th), And it will be at a neutral site. You heard it here first.
The Boxing Guru.
petterson in the rematch will be even better at workin on the inside. khan wont handle him nxt time
Lamont please give this dude a rematch,So he can shut tha @#$% Up
Khan is soft!
khan won on my scorecard even with two points deducted including the hbo scorecard.
when the master scorecard disappears for 2 days only for a different version to be found… all i can say is ^&%$£^%^ corrupt £$”$”£ foul play %^£$^%$ cheats
@eviltaker10,
You said, “I don’t know how good of a fighter khan is, but he sure as hell is sexy looking! :O” ARE YOU A MALE OR FEMALE? Well, some fatal attractions are going on here.
khan should fight kris cyborg for her mma title that way he could use his special tactics. no she would knock him out. better stick with goldenboy and let them buy his wins and titlrs.
Isnt this article about 10 days late?
Old news.
I think the decision will be REVERSED. No big fight in Washington D.C. for over two decades. Well, after this fight, there may NOT be a big fight in D.C. for the NEXT TWO CENTURIES.
i think khan is fighting in the wrong class. he should go after cyborg the mma champ. that way he could use all his tactics. no she would knock him out. better stick with goldenboy and let them buy the wins.
I don’t know how good of a fighter khan is, but he sure as hell is sexy looking! :O
if the decision gets overturned, im seriously gonna consider leaving my passion for the sport behind me,khan is a joke and golden boy think there bigger than the sport itself it sickens me to think that a guy who want rematch ANYONE was carried to the top barring maidana fight which was a let down of ref joe cortez needs to be mentioned as a twat btw, gets the fame money and life he has, also for dlh to be a atg and to s**t on the sport he loves shows you the y it is the most corrupt sport.
its his party and he will cry if he wants to
And they will find that Khan was extremely overrated. 60+ shoves, over 100 head holds. Perhaps they should investigate how Khan can even call himself a boxer.
