Peterson wants Pacquiao fight in 2012
By John F. McKenna (McJack): New International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) wants a crack at World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s) in 2012.
“If there’s an opportunity and it makes business sense, and it’s a situation that we feel we could go into and have a good chance at coming out on top then we’ll take a shot at it.”
Lamont earned a career high $650,000 in his controversial win over Amir Khan on December 10 in Washington, D.C.
Golden Boy Promotions, Khan’s promoter, has already offered Peterson a one million dollar purse for a rematch with Khan.
Peterson at 5’9” would have a nearly 3 inch height advantage over Pacquiao. Lamont would have to move up from light welterweight, where he now fights, to welterweight.
After the weigh in for the fight with Khan, Peterson had rehydrated up to 155 pounds by the time of the fight.
Timothy Bradley, who handed Peterson his only loss in 2009, is also being considered as a possible future opponent for Lamont. Obviously a fight with pound for pound king Pacquiao would be far more lucrative for Lamont. One of the drawbacks to a Peterson – Bradley fight is that Bradley has never demonstrated an ability to draw fans in large numbers.
With Floyd Mayweather Jr. now out of the picture there are a number of opponents being considered for a fight with Pacquiao, possibly in May or June of 2012. Among those being considered as possible opponents are Timothy Bradley, Miguel Cotto and Peterson.
Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz has stated that no decision will be made as to who Manny’s next opponent will be until after the holidays in January. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, Koncz and Pacquiao will confer and discuss the various options at that time.
Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has made no secret of his desire to see Manny fight Peterson. Roach is also Amir Khan’s trainer and was in his corner on December 10 when Amir lost his IBF and WBA belts to Peterson.

This bum just want a paid day…
lamont needs a fight @ 147 then face pac…then we see if power increases a little bit to hang with pac. i think pac would win by KO..but not without a good fight from lamont.-lamont desreves the belt in comparasin to Khan who is just a better athlete
its funny how roach is pushing for a peterson fight, yet they are scared to death to make the bradley vs pacquiao fight.peterson will make pacquiao look like a fool.
OMG…is this even being considered? Seriously? WOW!
Lamont Peterson listen, there’s only “ONE WAY” and it’s 100% guaranteed! Fight him at Jr. Welterweight division and defend ur IBF-WBA belts. When was Pacquiao became a champ at 140 lbs? He beat Ricky Hatton in 2009 and he grabbed his IBO belt. That’s not a major title! Manny knows that. In his mind, he needs your unified major belts! LP, makes that offer to Pacquiao and I guarantee you 100% contract signing will be made immediately!
To the author of this column, please send this to Lamont Peterson. Thanks a lot boxingnews24.com
Pacquiao already fought a guy 2 weight classes below him against MARQUEZ. NOW HE MUST FIGHT SOMEONE IN THE SAME WEIGHT CLASS. Like Mayweather, Ortiz, or Berto.
I would lose ALOT of respect for Pacman if he actually chooses to fight another small guy a weight class lower than him. Especially after he unofficially lost to MARQUEZ.
Just because he is a weight class smaller than Pacman and he beat Pacman’s buddy doesnt warrant a fight w/ Pacquiao. Id lose ALOT of respect for Pacman if he fights Peterson next especially after losing to Marquez (which means he has MUCH to prove).
Hold which Pacquaio? Peterson must be talking about some other Pacquaio because he should not and will not be facing Manny Pacquaio.
I think Pacquiao wins by a wide margin.
it interesting fight peterson vs pacquiao we will how good pacquiao
Its a nice fight to be watched.
Peterson is not biting more that he can chew and he mean it by challenging Pacquiao. He was able to defeat Amir then lets give him a chance if he indeed a class A fighter.

I like Peterson but he is no match for Manny. A rematch with Khan in Vegas would be better for him. Pac will KO him especially that Lamont wants to brawl on the inside. None has survived a toe to toe fight with Manny-it’s suicidal.
I would rather pay to watch this fight. But if pacman fights Marquez again i wont waste my time or money to see those two fight again.
Lamont has the chin and style to beat Manny. Roach fighters have no inside game. The next time Manny loses it will be to a fighter who stays on Mannys chest. If Marquez had any sense he would have stayed on the inside when he fought Manny. Lamont will shock the world if he fights Manny.
Peterson does not deserve a fight with Manny….Khan beat him the 1st time&will KO Peterson in a rematch!
@billyd Floyd willbe out long befor nanny fights will probably be deep in training for a july fight. Funny all of a sudden manny looking for a may fight date. What happened to needing time to heal.
Peterson is a light puncher good safe choice. Yet again he could make manny look bad. No way they give Bradley a shot now arum won’t risk it.
Why not? It looks like an exciting fight. But Peterson dream will not going anywhere if he demands the fight be in his hometown. Khans lost was definitely a hometown deciison.
Well, I guess Mayweather will see Pacquiao in Prison. ‘Cause Pacquiao will kill this guy Peterson in the ring.
Freddie Roach, the father, wants his best son, Manny Pacquiao, to go and revenge what his younger son, Amir Khan, just lost to.
