Lou Dibella : Floyd Mayweather vs. Sergio Marinez Possible for 2012

By Daniel Echevarria: According to ESPN.UK Lou Dibella of “Dibella Entertainment” has gone on record saying there was a brief conversation with reps for Floyd Mayweather that if a fight cannot be done with Manny Pacquiao, then they would consider a showdown with Sergio “Maravilla”Martinez.

Lou Dibella for fans that don’t know is a well known boxing promoter as is Bob Arum to Top Rank and Dibella promotes Sergio Martinez, Andre Berto, Breidis Prescott, and Peter Manfredo just to name a few. He has an ongoing show aired in New York called “Broadway Boxing” showcasing all up and coming boxers. This is great news because at the top of Ring Magazines P4P list Sergio Martinez is the # 3 P4P best fighter in the world behind Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

Bob Arum has already said Manny Pacquiao will not fight Sergio Martinez because he is too big, even though Antonio Margarito was at 150 when he fought Pacquiao and Martinez said he would drop to 150. But the answer was still NO, so Pacquiao vs. Martinez is out the picture. So number 2 is Floyd Mayweather.

Sergio Martinez is the perfect candidate for Floyd if Bob Arum can’t step up to the plate after all the accusations that Floyd Mayweather was scared because Sergio Martinez is the second name today that tons of fans say Floyd is afraid to step in the ring with also besides Manny Pacquiao.

A fight with Sergio Martinez would be the easiest and fastest deal to make because Lou Dibella made the deal between Sergio Martinez and Darren Barker basically over his “Twitter” page so a deal can be made anywhere according to Dibella and Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2012 is starting to stale and lose steam so it’s becoming apparent that Top Rank will lose out on the Biggest Pay Day in History and Dibella and Martinez will reap the rewards.

BHop will do pushups to see flyd and Martinez go at it,so will I.I kind of like what martinez has accomplished, but he is no floyd Mayweather. It shoud be very entertaining to say the least.Offensively they both are similar. But defensively not equal to floyd.I see it as another Froch Ward fight, and you know who Ward would be.

  • eman says:

YEAH, IT SHOPULD BE MARTINEZ-LITTLE FLOYD AND AFTER LITTLE FLOYD’D LOSS TO MARTINEZ, LITTLE FLOYD CAN FACE MARQUEZ AGAIN, 50/50 PURSE SPLIT. THEN AFTER LITTLE FLOYD’S LOSS TO JMM, HE CAN FACE COTTO 60/40 PURSE SPLIT IN FAVOR OF COTTO, AND AFTER LITTLE FLOYD LOSS TO COTTO, HE CAN FACE BARRERA 70/30 PURSE SPLIT IN FAVOR OF BARRERA.

    IT’S 42-3 WIN-LOSS RECORD FOR LITTLE FLOYD.

    P E A C E !

  • marcos says:

This is a fight all fans want to see, to be honest I think we are just tired of the run around from both pacman and Floyd on that fight; fans wana see floyds skills put to the test with an evenly sized opponent , though martinez doesn’t have the knowledge Floyd has, he has heart and that may be all he needs to penetrate floyds remarkable defensive skills .

  • Casper says:

All you Martinez haters are nothing but butt-hurt cuz your idols fear him. But guess what his 37 and his still kicking azz of 27 yr olds and 30′s yr old. When was the last time Pac&Floyd fought against someone younger than them??

  • Mr.Honkey says:

No F* Way!! If it does go down, PBF is gonna call all the shoots. He gonna want Maravilla @ 147 and no more then 154 on fight night.

  • Foreal says:

Packnuts, talk about Floyd Vs Manny, and not Floyd Vs Martinez or shut the hell up. We know the real deal is the earlier, it is what we have been waiting for.

  • Foreal says:

All we want to see is Floyd against Manny. We want Manny embarassed in there. Arum and team, step up to the challenge, put Manny in there with Floyd.

  • Chi-town says:

Martinez is a good fighter but not very smart,…hes walking
around at about 167 an fighting at 160 now hes going to
come down to 150 to fight Pacman thats crazy, an Floyd
will make him come down to 147 so by the time Martinez
make the weight he will have beat his self

  • My Words says:

I didn’t know Maravilla Martinez is of Greek-Spanish descent.

  • corde says:

why would Floydnfight a guy thats heavier then he is . Doesnt make sense to me.

  • Patrick says:

If Sergio can safely come back down to 154 this would be a great fight. Two awesome talents. One who is text book, and the other who does things outside the text book. If Pac and May don’t meet this would be the second best fight.

  • Bronxbull says:

Martinez is not on Pacquiao Mayweather level…………
Still need to prove himself by beating fighter his own size convincingly.
Then he can fight Pacquiao or Mayweather.

But If the fight happens….Pac or May will beat sergio…

funny how people talk all this floyd is scared this and that and soon as it looks like he might fight the guy they are talking about they start downing the person they just said floyd is scared of and start making excuses. Floyd will never win except in at the bank because all the haiter will still buy the ppv.
    __________________________________________________________

all of you f@ggots are saying the same thing about pac. so why cry about this?

  • big burt says:

bob arum is killing boxing.period.only carl froch wants to fight the best.

  • dan says:

Labella and Haymon are good friend, That’s why Sergio will not trash talk Floyd, he trash talk Manny because Labella hates Arum. Arum is not stupid to give them a free ride to a million dollar fight. Blame yourself Sergio, you should sign with Arum and not with Labella.

  • B e a r c a t says:

floyd would win this fight on points. martinez is a marginal talent. no mas

  • rjhill says:

flyd too fast I think for Sergio.Maybe pac too.Mertinez is getting no younger.

  • 99 Problems says:

I will tell you this…Should FMJ fight and defeat Martinez, that is one left over that Manny Pacquiao will run from like a naked dude in prison.

  • polo says:

@bagets….. Funny remember those same statments being said before mosley and ortiz and delahoya fights got announced. Martinez is taylor made for floyd. Fights with his hands down. Floyd will see his punches coming a mile away and counter him all night.

  • David33 says:

Martinez will kills Floyd, who won’t be able to block his punches with elbows. And Floyd hits like a girl and won’t be able to hurt Martinez. Pacman has a chance against Sergio, though.

  • tauj says:

That could be a fight of the year contender.

  • Wolverine says:

Agree with Jake that Martinez should be challenging the bigger Super 8 guys, specially Froch, Bute, Ward and a whole host of other guys…but let Martinez play that stupid game he likes to play with his hands by his side n puttin his chin out to bait his opponent with Floyd…Floyd is gonna tag that chin all damn night. Force Martinez to put up his guard then tag those kidneys…

  • bagets says:

@Polo,,,the din’t happen wet and your idol will not pick to fight Sergio your dreaming kid!

  • The Fighter says:

if Sergio vs Floyd happen i bet for Floyd but i dont believe Floyd will fight Sergio and if it really happen Floyd is really scared of Manny after the Pac accept a small cut just for the fight to happen!!!

  • Ben Gurion says:

As far as I can sense Manny Pacquiao is most willing to confront Floyd Mayweather whether lose or win. What is most obvious is the prize money that runs in millions of dollars. The fight would eventually fix in the coming months against Mayweather if any stumbling block is set aside. Secondly Manny wants to prove his fame to rekindle because of his below par performance against Juan Manuel Marquez.

  • polo says:

@allan sign……. Manny days of fights weights 148 pounds floyd days of fights weights 147 to 150 pounds they are basically the same size. Manny said he would fight martinez at 150 pounds. Soon as martinez said yes manny said he would face him only at 147 pounds and martinez could not weight more then 150 pounds day of the fight. Basically enough with the excuses.

  • Robbie says:

Good, they belong together and they can cheat each other. Nobody will care anyway aside from their both brainwashed supporters.

  • Easy money says:

Mayweather vs Martinez winner will sure tops pacquiao mystical status in boxing world. I feel, Floyd will be the under dog in this bout but I feel “money” will win coz the fight will be fix.

  • Henjek says:

    @AMERICASBEST

this. fuelling interest, the game is called.

  • allan singh says:

It is interesting to read some of the comments made by Martinez by calling Pacman fraud. The botton line is Manny is, by size, a small frame man and can only realistically go up in weight so far without putting his very life in danger by fighting bigger and bigger guys. A man must know his physical limitations and not push himself so far.

Floyed is a better matchfor Martinez. They are about the same with SW slighter bigger. Sergio should focus his attention on getting floyed in the ring with him. That matchup will really spark the interest of even the most casual boxing fan, and think of what it will do interms of numbers at the box office?

Floyed cannot use the excuse that SM is not a big draw. Lets see the fight!

    Peace

    @ Jeff41

Mosley was old and past his prime?? Well why did Pacquiao fight him right after and Arum made it out to be “The Hardest Challenge” at the time for Pacquiao… Same song and Dance from you guys.. Maywweather does it NO RESPECt Pacquiao does it OMG GREATEST EVER

  • AMERICASBEST says:

I wish i had a dollar for every article i have read in the pas three years on this site that starts with Floyd Mayweather vs. ? Possible for ?

    STFU!

  • Boxing Fan # 1 says:

    @ Jeff41

Testing might have been an excuse but Pacquiao didnt want to step up and take it in the beginning so maybe Floyd was on to something because he is a smart fighter and look now everybody including Dibella is jumping on it

  • Henjek says:

    @mannyfresh

thanks pal. I have read it. But i think, that the promoters/teams are collaborating in PR issues quite often. Of course they are fueling interest in Martinez by this, too.

  • j_z says:

I dont care I think if mayweather or pacquiao fight martinez it will be ko sergio wins both ill put my money on that

  • Jeff41 says:

@Polo: That could be right; I don’t know. But Floydie has undoubtedly avoided Manny for years now, making different excuses such as random testing, purse money, etc.

  • K.Fox says:

Floyd Mayweather P4P king hands down… He has the possibility to go down in history as best fighter to lace up a pair of gloves if he retires undefeated of course if he wins over Martinez, and the little fella…
The little fella is all hype. He might want the fight but Bob Arum knows better.
The real beef is Mayweather vs Arum…

  • polo says:

@jeff41. Floyd tried to fight mosley twice when he was undefeated both time mosley said no and when floyd did fight him he was ranked #3 p4p in the world and manny had just refused to fight him. Top rank said mosley was too good for manny. But the excuses always start after floyd beats someone.

  • mannyfresh says:

Henjek if you didn’t read….this is Martinez’s promoter saying this, Floyd hasn’t mentioned this at all

  • floyd might fight pac now says:

i say let floyd fight manny then the winner gets martinez

  • lawson says:

the only thing martinez is after is money. call out guys your own size champ, there are plenty of guys who would love to knock your head off

  • TMC says:

this is the fight i wanna see

  • Jeff41 says:

Yes Floyd gave Mosley a chance but only when Mosley became old and past his prime.

  • polo says:

funny how people talk all this floyd is scared this and that and soon as it looks like he might fight the guy they are talking about they start downing the person they just said floyd is scared of and start making excuses. Floyd will never win except in at the bank because all the haiter will still buy the ppv.

  • Boxing Fan # 1 says:

    Q Henjek

Never say never Pedquiao fan because everybody including once again BOB ARUM said Floyd would NEVER fight Mosley and look he stepped up gave hom Boxing 101 lesson after Lesson!!!

  • Anonymous says:

    @Henjek

Just because PEDquiao is a coward and is afraid to fight both Mayweather and Martinez, don’t hate on a possible fight between the best P4P boxers. PEDquiao is the P4P protected fighter.

  • Henjek says:

    @Jeff41

Floyd will never fight Sergio, as there is a high probability, that Floyd will lose. These are the typical Floyd-PR-Stories, which are put up, to fuel interest in Floyd Mayweather Jr.

  • B e a r c a t says:

martinez beat a drunk in Pavlik and threw a wild haymaker that Ko’d the human toothpick Williams. not a great fighter.

  • jake r says:

martinez should not be challing out smaller men.to prove his self top notch he must challenge ward, bute, kessler. fact.

  • B e a r c a t says:

Props to DiBella for his honor. Rectum Bob is a bum.

  • Jeff41 says:

All lies. Floyd will never fight a powerful and skilled fighter like Sergio.
