Thus far, Peterson has already received a $1 million rematch offer with Amir Khan by Golden Boy Promotions, but he wants to see if he can something better than that. One fight that really interests Peterson is a bout against WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Peterson would obviously go for this fight in a second if he can get it and then face Khan afterwards.

Barry Hunter, the trainer for Peterson, said to Ringtv “If the opportunity is there,” meaning that he would take the Pacquiao bout at welterweight. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach already said yesterday that he thinks a fight between Pacquiao and Peterson would be something he would be interested in due to Peterson’s exciting fighting style. However, Roach isn’t the matchmaker for Pacquiao, Top Rank is, and they’re not likely to set this fight up if there are bigger names and/or other Top Rank fighters that are available to step in and face Pacquiao next for a nice payday.

Peterson wants to fight a rematch with Khan, but he also would like to get one fight in between the Khan rematch so he can get a good payday. A fight against Pacquiao would be the best possible situation for Peterson, because he wouldn’t have to put his two titles on the line for the fight and could turn around and take on Khan in his next fight after that. However, Khan and Golden Boy are trying to force Peterson into giving him an immediate rematch by appealing Khan’s decision loss to the IBF and WBA. If Khan wins the appeal, Peterson will be forced to fight Khan in his first fight in 2012 unless he decides to give up the belts.
