Peterson told examiner.com “It’s [Brandon Rios] definitely a fight a fight I would like. The last three fights, it seems everybody I fight, they are good movers and they always move. Him, he’s not going to anywhere and I like that. I definitely would like a fight with Brandon.”

I bet that’s good news for Rios and his promoters from Top Rank, because Rios is looking for a fight and can no longer safely make the lightweight limit of 135 pounds. It would be a great fight for Rios to take in his first fight at 140 to face Peterson with his IBF and WBA titles on the line.

The only question would be whether Top Rank would be willing to risk Rios against an equally good inside fighter like Peterson. Rios has had the advantage is most of his fights by always being the better inside fighter than his opponents. You couldn’t really say that for sure against Lamont Peterson.

It could be an evenly matched fight. Lamont wants to avenge his brother Anthony Peterson’s 7th round disqualification loss against Rios from last year in September. What better way than to fight Rios in his next fight in front of the entire world in Washington, DC in a fight that would be televised on HBO.

Khan and Golden Boy could end up getting in the way of Peterson’s plans for a Rios bout or a bout against someone like Timothy Bradley. Golden Boy has paid a huge sum of money to both the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation to appeal the decision to try and get it reversed or have an immediate rematch ordered. It just seems like that one of the two sanctioning bodies are going to side with Golden Boy and force a rematch with Khan.
