Image: Lamont Peterson: I want to fight Timothy Bradley first; Amir Khan can wait his turnBy William Mackay: If IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson gets his way he’ll face WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley next and then fight the anxious and unhappy Amir Khan after that. Peterson feels he has unfinished business with Bradley, because he was beaten by him two years ago in a noncompetitive fight in 2009. Peterson already beat Khan, so it’s not as interesting for him to cover old ground.

Peterson feels the rematch will be a lot easier than their fight last Saturday night, because Peterson won’t waste time trying to box Khan the way he was doing in much of the first six rounds. Peterson says he’d instead go right after Khan immediately and force him to try and push, hold or run like he did in the last six rounds of their fight.

Peterson told eastsideboxing.com’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio program “Of course it would be Bradley. That would be my first option. With Khan, you know, whatever happens after the Bradley fight I can still fight Khan regardless. So my first thing would be just to avenge my only loss.”

Peterson was fouled repeatedly by Khan last Saturday, and the referee finally got sick of Khan giving Peterson whiplash by shoving him so hard and took two points away from Khan for the shoving. However, Khan got away with a lot more than just shoving Peterson.

Taking the constant fouls from Khan in stride, Peterson said “You look at him fighting Zab Judah. Nobody said anything about him holding Zab down like that and hitting him low…It was an illegal blow. They gave him the knockout and no one said anything.”

With Khan getting away with holding Judah down with his left arm and hitting him low to score a knockout, Peterson was surprised when Khan was finally penalized for a change in their fight instead of given a free pass like he’s been getting by referees.
