Image: Haye: Andre Ward is going to be shook up when he feels Froch's powerBy Scott Gilfoid: David Haye sees his good friend WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch as having too much for WBA super middleweight champ Andre Ward in their huge Super Six finals fight tomorrow night in New Jersey. Haye, who was wrong with his recent pick of Amir Khan in fight against Lamont Peterson, sees it as a case of Froch having too much power for Ward.

Speaking with Sky Sports Ringside, Haye said “When the first bell rings and Carl shows the kind of power he possesses, the type of speed and the types of strange angles he punches from, I think Ward will be shook up.”

Froch does punch from odd angles quite frequently and doesn’t seem to mind being off balance when he throws a punch. However, his power isn’t extraordinary, as Ward has been in with bigger punchers such as Edison Miranda, Sakio Bika and Mikkel Kessler. And Haye’s assessment of Froch’s speed is completely off. Froch doesn’t have good hand speed at all, and it appears Haye was speaking without really thinking before opening his mouth. If Ward is going to be shook up in this fight, it’s not going to be because of Froch’s hand speed.

That’s the least impressive thing about Froch next to his poor defensive skills. It’s kind of shocking how a professional fighter like Haye could be so wrong when evaluating a fighter. It’s actually kind of scary. Perhaps that’s why he looked so clueless against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in his last fight. He just had no real ideas in his head for that fight, and it looks as if that’s the case for his thoughts on the Froch-Ward fight.
