Froch: The state of British boxing is good

Image: Froch: The state of British boxing is goodBy Scott Gilfoid: If you were a doctor examining the state of health of British boxing right now you would likely see it in need of life support after the losses of Dereck Chisora, Amir Khan, John Murray, David Haye, Ryan Rhodes, Carl Froch and Brian Magee. But Froch believes that British boxing is going swimmingly despite the string of loses.

Froch said to the mirrow.co.uk “I think the overall state of British boxing is good. I know we’ve lost a few champions, but that’s because we are all competing at the top level. Amir Khan lost a bad decision and I’ve lost a decision to someone [Andre Ward] who I can’t see getting beat. Who is there to beat Andre Wad? I can’t see anyone and he could be boxing’s next super star.”

Froch appears to be using intellectualization to keep from coming to terms with the feelings he should be feeling about his loss to Ward. Instead of looking at it in such a detached manner like it’s someone else, Froch needs to understand why he got beat. He got beat because he doesn’t have the speed and boxing ability and will likely suffer the same problems in future fights against talented fighters.

That wasn’t a bad decision in the Khan vs. Lamont Peterson fight. It’s only a bad decision if you think Khan didn’t deserve the two penalizations, otherwise it was a loss Khan earned. He ran around the ring all night long and fouled like mad, and Froch calls it a bad decision? Two points taken away from Khan, and he gets away with countless fouls, plus a bogus knockdown and it’s a bad decision? I think Froch is kidding himself if he thinks that was a bad decision. He also is playing tricks on himself about the state of health of British boxing. Haye was just beat and is looking for a cash out fight against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Haye will lose that fight.

Khan will likely lose his rematch with Peterson unless he can get away with shoving Peterson around the ring and pulling down on his head all night. Froch will lose his proposed two fights against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute. Dereck Chisora is going to be destroyed by Vitali Klitschko in February. Nathan Cleverly, the WBO light heavyweight champion, still has to face a quality fighter and will definitely lose once he takes on the likes of Chad Dawson and Tavoris Cloud. There’s no question about. British boxing is doing terribly if you ask me.
