Froch-Bute fights will make an eventual Ward bout that much bigger

Image: Froch-Bute fights will make an eventual Ward bout that much biggerBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) is doing the right thing in letting Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) and IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (29-0, 24 KO’s) fight it out in a proposed two-fight tournament next year, as the winner of this fight can then meet up with Ward in an unofficial continuation of the Super Six tournament.

It’ll only make an eventual Ward vs. the Froch-Bute fight that much bigger when the time comes. Ideally, the Bute-Froch winner needs to take on Mikkel Kessler so that there is literally just one guy that emerges from those elimination bouts to face Ward, the man with the most titles and the guy that just finished winning the Super Six tournament.

It would be great no matter who would come out on top of the eliminator bouts because we would have a clear cut opponent for Ward to take on. Right now, no one knows for sure whether Bute is better than Froch and Kessler. But by Froch or Kessler taking on Bute, we can have a good opponent for Ward to fight sometime in late 2012 or early 2013. I think it’s a great idea.

Ideally, Ward needs to stay busy taking on some of the top contenders in the division like the Dirrell brothers – Anthony and Andre Dirrell. If he could fight them in back to back fights it would be huge for boxing, because those guys are clearly a head above the other contenders. Then if Ward is still the champion in 2013, then he needs to face the winner of the Froch-Bute-Kessler bouts.
